JDM B20A Swap ?s

Ok so I'm in college right now and I'm gonna be gettin a refund check next semester. And I'd really like to do the jdm b20a swap into my 91 si. I should get my refund check around mid to late Jan. so if I decide I want to do it for sure I'd like to have it in my the end of Feb. But I'm not sure on a few things...

1. How much is a JDM B20A?
2. Where can I get one?
3. Will it drop right in? (any mods?)
4. Will my d2a4 trans be compatible?
5. How much to have it installed? (im not mechanically able)
6. Pros/Cons of the JDM B20A over my B21A1?
7. Is my end of Jan.-end of Feb. a reasonable time frame?

Any advice would be appricated. I love to learn when it comes to things I love and Ludes are def something I love, along with females! lol

2. 3rd gen resource guide is your friend

6. slightly more hp, no FRM, "JDM" = cool
7. yeah sounds good to me

but check out the 3rd gen resource guide and it will answer a lot of your questions, but for more info look to people who have done the swap, try pming ludasaurus (sp?) he has the B20A and seems like a guy who would help you out with any questions you have, but me personally i wouldn't swap out the B21 till you have to... take pride in being the oil eating king of the honda world!!!

yeah... thats another thing i was thinkin about... i dont really need to do it cuz my motor is fine just burns oil, has 212K+ miles on it, getting tired/weak, and has a few minor leaks...

It's getting really hard to find a JDM B20a nowadays. The good thing about a b20a is that is does bolt right in your engine bay, reusing the d2a4 and the manifolds. The better thing is that is does not burn oil and has a lot less miles(usually 50-70k miles), so in turn, the b20a is the far better choice than the b21. You can also use a b20a5, but most likely, they will have high miles as it's a USDM motor.

I on the other hand am a b21a1 martyr. I will keep rocking the b21 until a connecting rod flies out of the block.


...oh, B20a's costs around $700-900.

but dont B20A5s have less horse and torque? is there really any advantage to having the B20A5 other than its not sleeved so it doesnt burn a lot of oil?

b20a's and b20a5's are pretty much the same motor other than different pistons other minor things...

It has slightly less HP...rated at 135hp compared to the b20a of 140-143ish HP. & same Tq @127

Yup. Most likely.

You're best bet, b20a y0! see, i've driven a b20a. They are smooth, slightly less tq feeling but feels a lot smoother at higher RPM's. I've driven a b20a5 also, almost the same feeling.

Have you thought about rebuilding your b21a1? get it properly honed, rering it, gaskets and it'll last another 160,000 miles. No oil burning...what else can life ask for? you've got a hookup from member: honda4life who can get you OEM Honda parts. think about it...
