Exhaust rasp

Okay, today I decided to chill out on my way to work, with my music low... and I noticed that getting on the throttle, my exhaust now has noticeable rasp above 3500rpm. It's an Apex`i WS2 catback. Now, I know I have a bit of leakage due to slamming/scraping the exhaust and I can clearly hear the leaks, but I was wondering... how long should that muffler last? I'm thinking about getting a new resonator put on the exhaust because if anything, that would be the first to wear out, being the hottest component that affects exhaust tone.

Re: Exhaust rasp

my WS2 is about a month old and it's raspy but I got header to 3" straight to the muff. so I suspect mine is just the price I pay. I do however love this muffler I will probably add a vibrant res. by late spring early summer.

Not 100% sure, but I do believe I removed all the heat shields when I installed the exhaust. Haven't been under the car in ages, so I can't say for sure. However, I'm not running a factory header, and I have the entire WS2 catback, and I know there aren't any heat shields attached to any of my existing exhaust components. It's definitely louder than it used to be 2 years ago lol.

Re: Exhaust rasp

Get any leaks fixed. Chances are if you've bottomed out a few times - you damaged the baffle within the resonator. I did that with my Evo2 and it sounded like a horrible leak for about a year until I had it replaced.

The muffler should last longer than the rest of the system.

Considering I've literally gotten the car stuck trying to get to my favorite sushi place, it's probably a crushed resonator. Guess I gotta take some measurements and see about getting a new one welded in. Maybe one of those Magnaflow Hushpower resonators.

I stand behind Vibrant products. When measuring, don't forget to check the overall OD of the resonator. You'll need the inlet/outlet size, OD, and length.

But be sure to fix any leaks where they connect first. Keep us updated.

Re: Exhaust rasp

Yup. That's why I'm looking at hushpower. They're shaped like a catalytic converter instead of completely round.
