Icon9 1997 ignition issues

My key wont turn in the ignition and its not just because the wheel is locked up, ive already tried rocking the wheel. Is there a way to be able it tell if it's my key or the part itself without buying one or the other?

Re: 1997 ignition issues

theres a recall on the ignition. call up honda, if you have towing insurance on your plan it will be free to tow it there. i've never heard of the ignition just not turning (other than my friend's malibu), but try wiggling the key around in the ignition. might make it work, try moving steering wheel again too.

honda might replace it for free because they were known to be faulty in 5th gens

Re: 1997 ignition issues

i have to push in my key, then back it out just a little. say you push in the key all the way then twist like trying to start while barely trying to pull the key out at the same time.
if that works, you'll get the feel for where the sweet spot is in no time.
i'm keeping mine like that for added security since can't just anybody start the car if the imobilizer is somehow bypassed.
hope you get it solved.
