ABS Light

Hey my abs light is on, i am wondering would it turn on because of a seized rear caliper or would it be something else?

Pull the code and get back to us. could be anything from a broken wheel speed sensor to a faulty pump

Re: ABS Light

Hi all, I am new to the forum and need some tech advice - thought I would try this thread first -
I have a 96 4th gen - the ABS light has been on for almost 4 years - used to not come on til the car actually started to move, but is now on all the time. Safety inspection time is approaching, there is no service centre here, including Honda dealers, that have a diagnostics machine that can communicate with the car to get the code. A Honda Service advisor suggested pulling the fuse. Any thoughts on this? The ABS has not worked for years now, I don't drive it in winter, will pulling a fuse cause other problems with the brakes? I am assuming he meant the fuse that causes the ABS dash light to come on. The non-ABS brakes have been fine since this issue started.
Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, I'm not a mechanic but I love this car and I would love to keep driving it . Any other suggestions are also welcome - thanks -

Re: ABS Light

Check your owners manual if you have one. You can download a service manual in the diy section and find fuses in that.

Anyway, there'll be a diagram showing which fuse powers what.

Brakes lights
Turn signals
Dome light

Get it?
If the abs is the only thing on the circuit, you're good to go to pull the fuse
My son pulled it in his 91 and the lamp went away. There were no other items on that circuit.
Probably same case with yours but i dunno.

Advising a customer to disable, rather than fix, a safety device? Liability lawyers dream about guys like this.

It's not too hard to read the fault code -- download the shop manual and read up on troubleshooting the ABS. Could be something as simple as a broken wheel sensor, which isn't an expensive or hard-to-replace part.

Re: ABS Light

Bykfixer - thanks - Have located the diagram - 3 fuses are mentioned in the underhood box, ABS (B1) at 20Amps, ABS (B2) at 15 Amps, and ABS Unit at 7.5 Amps. I suspect it is the last one at 7.5 Amps...will try that one.
