Re: EGR Ports are welded shut

All the intakes prior to 97 were welded. You have to grind all the well off to get to the plug. And then once you have to plugs out you are going to have to make your own plugs to put back in because the plugs from Honda don't fit. It s a PITA! I've got some pics of the plugs I made for mine if you would like to see.

Re: EGR Ports are welded shut

That would be great if you could show me how you did that. Is there anyway that you would recommend grinding or removing those welds? This is my first Honda, I usually stick to classic muscle

Re: EGR Ports are welded shut

Yeah I used an angle grinder. They're welded from the factory. I drilled and tapped each one and used a slide hammer (DIY) to yank them out.

I did, however get OEM plugs to fit by drilling the holes out (once the old plugs were pulled) with a 25/64 drill bit. They're snug and I haven't had any issues at all.

Don't forget the plug on the driver's side!

What do you mean don't forget the plug on the driver side? I thought there was only 6 plugs, if I'm wrong please tell me.

Re: EGR Ports are welded shut

Did you do it all with the intake off the car? I left it on doing mine so I didnt really wan to drill into the plugs any more than I had to. I used a dremel to grind the welds off. I plugged mine from the top lip you see in schmittys photo.

I took mine off when I did it. I'm thorough like that and wanted to clean it all really well.

You'll be able to see a light outline of the old plug like this:

Or this:

It's very faint so take your time.

And yes, there is a seventh plug on the side of the manifold.

Re: EGR Ports are welded shut

Ok thanks for all the help. One last thing, how easy is this with the intake manifold still installed?

It's a PITA from what I've heard. And you can't get the side port out, there's no room. But then again, it's a PITA to take the manifold off and install it. So either way, you're going to be cursing up a storm. And you can't drill out the holes if you still have it installed so IDK how you'll be able to get the new plugs in.

Re: EGR Ports are welded shut

What is this I hear about EGR Deletes? I cant find anything on how to do it, if I would get any gains by doing it. What would yall recommend... should I just delete or should I just clean them? I want the most power out of my car.
