Replacing Air Box with metal pipe and Cone filter

I have a 98 base prelude 5 speed and today I decided to put in my friends old air filter and attach it where my stock air box was... Will this hurt performance or gain? I know it sounds a bit nicer and Do i get a gain or is it all show and sound
?
I attached a image with it to show what i did

Now you're going to suck in warm air from the engine compartment... no performance gain for you!

Re: Replacing Air Box with metal pipe and Cone filter

OEM intake with a K&N filter is your best option. Those CAI/SRI setups for our cars don't do jack.

Re: Replacing Air Box with metal pipe and Cone filter

Yea I thought so unless I take the filter lower by the front bumper then I do get a gain right? And it wasn't off of eBay it was laying around a friends house lol No money spent

Oem intake w/ k&n filter. Cai and Sri setups are a waste of money.

Re: Replacing Air Box with metal pipe and Cone filter

I agree, the Prelude OEM intake is a very well designed system and is tough to beat. Drop in a K&N filter and be done with it. They're about $38 bucks on ebay shipped.

Re: Replacing Air Box with metal pipe and Cone filter

Yea I thought the airbox was pretty well designed, what would y'all think if I made the cone filter fit into the airbox would the cone beat the flat filter or?

Please just spend the money. K&N drop in filter. Done.

Re: Replacing Air Box with metal pipe and Cone filter

Yeah After Market intakes give you as much boost in Hp as cleaning your own intake. All it is, is just a shinier metal tube instead of the black plastic tube that carries airflow. The biggest difference you could get is from the filter, but most OEM set ups are better anyways because they are deigned for the specific car, Aftermarket intakes are mostly universal so you're losing the car specific bonus.

It's basically engine dress up which is why it's so cheap.

Yes TypeS Intake with K&N is a great choice. Stock intake with K&N filter is pretty great too, sounds like that will be easiest for you. Do it.
