Icon14 What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there?

Just curious to see what made you guys choose your prelude over all of the other options we have out there. I'll start with mine...

I've always loved tuner cars back since I very first got my license. Something about all of the customization with them, whether it be kits or performance, I always favored tuners over muscle cars. I mainly chose my prelude for one that Honda has always been really reliable. After I sold my last car I wanted to land a car that not everyone else out there had, to me the prelude fits this perfect. It's not your every day civic, or integra. I have gotten so many complements and looks from my car, and mine is far from being in perfect shape. I know this is the right ride for me due to the fact that every time I walk outside to take my car it puts a smile on my face. I love the front end of the 5th Gen, along with everything else about it. I don't like having things that everyone else out there has, especially when it comes to cars. The prelude is awesome, and so is the community. I hope to keep this ride running strong forever.

What are your main reasons?

my prelude had been in my family since 1998 and we all agreed that it would be very sad to sell the car, so my brother gave it to me as a 17th birthday present :D

My first car was a honda accord, loved it!! I then got an old jeep and drove it for a year, started having trouble with it so I started looking for a new car, I really wanted to get another honda and i was looking at a used civic si. couldn't find one in my price range, found my BB6 and loved it. Bought it and no looking back since.

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

Well. . .

I was originally going to get my mom's civic as a first car, and she was going to get a new car (like a Kia Optima i think is what she wanted. . . the new ones are actually really nice cars). However because of sudden financial reasons, that plan was thrown out of the window. My mom loves her civic so much that she really didn't want to get rid of it either. Lo and behold, I find myself on Craigslist looking for a car. I had a bit of cash saved up, and my 'rents were willing to meet me halfway with money from their tax return.

I started off looking for Preludes, actually. My stepdad's first two cars were preludes, a 1985 base model and a 1988 Si. (He has pics, and damn his '88 Si in black was a nice car.) After going to look at one that looked promising in the pictures (98 SH) It turned out to be, for the most part, a piece of junk. <That is the unfortunate thing about Preludes. More often than not they have ended up in the hands of someone who doesn't care for it and let it wither away and end up in scrap. It's awful.

Anyway, after letting that one go, I found a gorgeous 2003 TL Type S. It was almost too good to be true, there were absolutely NO problems with it, and his asking price was so ridiculously low that I really couldn't pass it up (J32 POWER YOOO). After I told him I wanted to buy it but needed about a week to gather the money, he sold it from under me. I wasn't really upset cause apparently he got a much better offer than what I was going to give him.

After this it was an '03 Accord V6. Red, automatic. The accord v6 (and the TL's up to '03. . . along with the Preludes. . . and apparently 7th gen Civics, mom had hers rebuilt at 90k miles) were known for transmission failure. Honda at the time made the worst autotragics, I'm telling you lol. Well, upon driving it I could tell that it was slipping, which basically told me the tranny was on its way out. NEXT.

This is when I went back to Preludes. The next one was a 1990 Si 4WS that I fell in love with. It ran great and had a new paintjob, new tires, and wheels, brakes, all that jazz. However the guy who was selling it was asking $5000, WAYY too much for a 1990 lude, even if it was 4WS. My first post here on PZ was actually me asking whether or not it was a good deal. Thankfully all of you guys in the 3rd gen section were able to get me to walk away. He even refused an offer of 4k. What a turd.

Theeennn I saw it. A white BB6. 2000 Type SH. And it was sexy. And it was delicious. Saw it, bought it, and here I am now. Looking back at my Craigslist adventure, I can honestly tell you that I couldn't be happier with the result.

Prelude Love <3

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

My first car was an auto 94 Accord...drove it for a year and got bored so started looking for my first 5spd car. I was keeping an eye on cheap local Teg's, Civ's and Lude's when I found a 4th gen SR-V with 135k miles for $1600. All other cars I was looking at in my price range (~$2k) had nothing on this thing so I scooped it up without a 2nd thought, despite all the body imperfections and mechanical problems. It was driveable, and I learned to drive 5spd as I crossed maintenance items off the list. I'll be honest, the first while I had it I was scared to go past 3k RPM's. I wasn't till I brought it out of the garage last July that I hit my first VTEC...will never forget it, put a smile on my face. lol

Didn't stop there...so a couple months ago I traded my 94 auto accord with 140k miles straight across for a 5spd 91 3rd gen lude with 165k miles.

Once I have the money I'll be in the market for a good condition 3rd gen prelude 4ws, 4th gen SR-V or 5th gen SE(Base) with which i'll do a serious build...right now im a poor student and the current ludes I have aren't in the condition I want so just using them as beaters.

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

I originally chose my Prelude based on what I could get on an even trade for my previous car which was a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM. I thought that it was in much better condition then it was when I got it, so I kind of really got screwed, but I do really like the car. I like Honda's in general, so that is what I wanted to trade for, and I also wanted a manual transmission, I hated the automatic the Pontiac had.

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

I bought a 93 plymouth voyager mini van for 500 bucks around dec/jan. After I realized that the van had a small oil leak and other problems with it I searched on craigslist for a trade. The guy had a 93 prelude si up for 1600 or trade for anything that runs so I gave him a call. About 3 weeks later he finally does the trade with me. I knew the car needed a lot of work when I got it but it was the best trade I have ever made. Ever since then I've been working on getting everything to perfect condition!
This is my first honda(5th car overall) and I'm sooo glad it's not a civic. &i just hate accords.
What really pissed me off the most is that when I test drove it, it had red and chrome honda emblems.. when I went to pick it up, they were gone :(

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

Had a DA integra that was an absolute piece of junk. Had some money in the bank and my parents gave me some more to find a new car. I was gonna look at some DC integras, but then my dad asked me "What about a prelude?" I had to look one up honestly, and from the moment I saw it I knew I wanted one.
The DA died on me again on my way to pick up the prelude, and that sealed the deal right there. Drove off with my 4th gen S that day.

Cousin had one and wrecked so my dad bought it as a racecar for a local dirt oval track. After about 8 parts cars, I built one to drive daily and the rest is history.

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

I got the '84 because research and a few test drives narrowed my choice down to the Prelude or a CRX...I found the Prelude first. I got the '92 because I made the mistake of test-driving it...the salesman said he knew I was sold when 60 more horsepower snapped my head back against the seat. No cause to regret it, though.

Re: What was your reason for picking up your Prelude over the other choices out there

I wanted a Honda, I just lost my 01 Sentra in a parked accident. Mom got a 2005 crv SE for her with the money and I went honda shopping for me. Found a 89 4WS prelude automatic. Never made a difference. I LOVED THAT CAR.

The handling vision I got for Sideswipe came from years of tinkering with gran turismo suspensions on all the cars, when the races had HP limits, but everything else could be tuned. From what people explained how the system worked, it was clear: 4WS dropped prelude with dialed suspension ~ to the best handling cars in the world.

Sticky tires, poly-u bushings, front rear strut bars, steel brake lines, koni/gc kit, and a 2 1/2" drop. The engine upgrades helped maintain power through corners, but achieving cornering like you're on rails...I was addicted.
