Stuck on Clevis pin

Does anyone have an idea for me or some trick to get out a seized clevis pin ? Ive tried heating it up a bit, wd-40, and many light taps with hammer and still no movement yet. Is this so rusted in place that i have to really heat it up and torch it some more ? Should it come out easily, or is it threaded in there ?

Everything else is very straight forward and easy. Im changing my rear calipers, but I am stuck on this and about to go to a mechanic....

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

Honestly man.... I have NEVER gotten one of those things out haha. On my last prelude I ended up just cutting the facking e-brake cable and getting a new one. Are you putting on new rear calipers?

Yes I am changing the rears, ill put pics up later of the work..
So is that thing a screw, or does it have any thread on it ?
And I can see changing that cable is gonna be a PITA, but it seems like a really good idea.. Ill probably do it... How high did u have to lift the car to change that ish ?

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

Since you're changing the calipers anyway you might as well just get a new ebrake cable and save yourself the trouble. Just cut that **** haha, you'll be ****ing with those clevis pins for days if you don't. You can get the ebrake cables on ebay for like $15. It's a pita to replace them though.... so much so that I just haven't done it on this car...when I replaced the rear calipers I just said **** it, I don't need an ebrake haha.

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

lol, u crazy mang, i should sincerely hope that u DONT ever need an ebrake... good luck with that. Im seriously considering torching the pin with real heat instead of a useless bic lighter, I keep on telling myself that if i use my torch, then it will work... Im not looking forward to doing that whole ebrake line, but my subconscious is telling me to get it over with. Ill show u guys pics later of what ive been having to deal with as a result of high heat from a sticking outer pad, as well as the sticky guide pins and the torn guide pin boot. One thing is for dam sure and that is that Honda's have some durable fahcking brakes... I may have to change a rotor again too. But I got my first set of Hawk's... whatever, here is some picture porn for now...

Rears

Calipers

Vac Bleeder/Tester

Now this right here is my current set up with 3 month old rotors, that i did break in properly with new pads, I just didnt do the calipers at the time, I thought I could drag em out a little longer... Now I pay the price of not knowing if I should just get new rotors again now... My question being, does this rotor look "blue" to you ?, It looks like it might need machining, but its not totally warped and blue with cracking. There is just this one tiny high spot I can hear on it..

Blue Rotor ?

For now I just want some good stock brakes, these can wait till later...

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

I KILLED IT WITH FIIIIRE !!
I got the bitch out finally, AND got my rear calipers and pads changed, AAAND got the old bleeder screw out with a bolt extractor. I got pics too
so here goes...

lil ****in bish

I hammered this guy on just a bit, and then grabbed with vise grips and turned very very slowly, screw came out like cheese baby.

All thanks to

You can see how that clevis pin is rusted in there real good not 4 long tho !

There's a different angle of the pin, welded by rust.

Here is a fuzzy shot of the clevis pin being 1/2 way out, after being attacked with the torch and vise grips

So that got done and I was happy as **** cause I could re-use my ebrake cables, but i will install new ones soon, The hawk pads are amazing, the rear has more power than the front now... lol, time for some serious front brakes and slotted rear rotors soon... So many choices.....

o well, here is my old caliper and damage...

my old guide pin boot, had no pressure, hence the pad constantly rubbing on a new rotor and heating the rim up to the point i could barely touch it and a couple times coming off the highway I saw smoke coming from the pads...

Shiny and damaged, could be salvaged and sandpapered to expose new layer, but I prefer to try the Hawks, these Raybestos pads were 100% garbage...

old caliper

new banjo bolt sealing washers

finished product

Thanks for looking, hopefully u dont get stuck for an hour per wheel like I did on the clevis pins, but be patient, gentle but firm, and oh ya, FIRE definitely fire... and wd-40.

Haha good job on the clevis pins. I could never get them. Hawk pads rule, i agree. I need to get my rears on and put on some ss brake lines

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

Never had that problem, LOL! Mainly because PB blaster cuts theough all that. Usually if you row the ebrake handle, then grease up the pin and do it again. Seized like yours though? Nope that's Maxpro.

I'm a Axxis / AEM pad man myself, only because EBC is just dust, 1 week, aluminum rims got powdercoated by the EBC PADS... Black! Hawks are proven to be good, just never had to look farther than Axxis Deluxe pads. Glad you got the job tackled Static!

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

well the Raybestos garbage pads had left caked on dust ALL over my parts, i used a whole can of brake kleen just doing the rears, and sending clean cores back to my mechanic (he loves the clean ones)
Once every week or 2 I would have to wipe down the rims with windex cause they got so dusty and cruddy. I de-greased the poop out of the rear rims yesterday and now I can see what some Hawks can do...

I just did a little searching since u mentioned AEM pads.....
Axxis is pretty affordable, AEM just sounds nuts and I think if I like these Hawks, I'll end up getting the Hawk HP+'s next year, and if I still long for more braking power, Ill try AEM with brembo slotted all around (inch up of course)

But all in all Im learning that you can spend all the money in the world on the fancy calipers, pads, grease and such, and your brakes will work well, but dont be surprissed when your pedal dips down more than it should... The only way around that (and probably the biggest difference u can make) is to upgrade your lines for ultimate pedal feel. I still have yet to drive a car with SS braided lines, but I think that is next for me...

REVIEW

The Mityvac bleeder worked pretty well for me, but.... It seems like air was getting into the bleeding process either under the nipple or through a line somewhere. Im imagining pressure should hold steady throughout the system.
Example,i hook up to bleeder nipple and pump up to 25 Hg, the system draws in through the tube, but always goes back down to zero, it never holds at 5 or 10 for example, and no matter how much i bleed the system there are always tons of air bubbles, I went through about 4-5 bottles of fluid to bleed all the brakes till the "honey" came out.. Am i not doing something right ? I couldnt get "solid fluid" out of any of the calipers, except for from the closest wheel to the MC, that went well, and so did my clutch bleed... Am i supposed to see the needle drop to zero everytime, or do I just have THAT much air in there ? The pedal is still a bit spongy and feels like it could be higher under mass braking. Im worried about air still being trapped in my new calipers, heating the **** up and ruining them...

Thanks for reading, any input will be slobbered over...

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

I really don't have a preference, usually those squeeze packets (4) at the counter just to keep the new pads quiet until break in is done. I know 3-4 brands that make it in a tub, but how much you really need?

And brake caliper grease for every pad change i think its SBC synthetic just to stop seizing, also good for the wheel studs, coat the end and let the lug nut do the work. The studs will look brand new forevah.

And paint those calipers!

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

After the drop, you had to look close for the toyo logos, you couldn't see tread anymore, LOL! Engine blew and before I can get another, the car was ironically "sideswiped." Parted out and with my trade in 4th gen, Mona came home with me. It was not natural how much i was hooked to my 4WS 89 prelude. I was depressed crazy! Being optimistic, i got the engine up to 125 whp, I did I/H/E, ignition and 80% of the suspension work. Look closely you'll see the badge on the b pillar.

Hmm, u still got a 4th G ?

Re: Stuck on Clevis pin

Yeah, but I'm going for 2012 or better right now. Everytime I drive my black car, it's silly. Like having a girl flash you to get your attention. And they're triple d's.

Rebuilding a 3rd gen isn't impossible, but it won't be as thorough as Sideswipe.

just tuck in your vagina and do it.

static, good job on the brakes!
I love my hawk pads. I put hawk HP pads and brembo blanks on my wife's v6 accord, they work so much better than stock. I have hawk hp+ and power slot slotted rotors on my lude <3
