Icon8 Should I sell my SH?

Sup guys?

I'm torn with whether or not it is worth holding onto my 2000 SH lude... and here's why: I'm the 3rd owner, the guy i bought it from said that the original owner had the car repainted due to the original red paint fading really bad. So it is now a charcoal color with a blue tint to it from a Porsche paint code. The problem with this is that for whatever reason they had the car painted beyond cheap, there was no prep work and pretty much just sprayed over the original red. The new paint color is chipping on the bumper and other spots which is showing the original red.

The blade rims on the car look like they were hit with a wire brush and are basically all scratched up beyond repair. The lude has a clean title with no accidents/ no rust/ and no frame damage sitting at 172k miles. It might be needing a new clutch soon also. I'm trying to figure out my options. If i wanted to have the paint redone the right way i'm probably looking at $3k+ I assume, new tires and rims close to $1k and new clutch. I like the car but these things are making me think twice if its worth saving the car and eventually dropping $4-5k on those things to be fixed. Since I've picked up the car i've probably dropped in around 1.5k or so.

I'm really lost on what would be my best bet, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

here's a picture, it looks good from far, but far from good up close

Re: Should I sell my SH?

not many people are going to say ya ok get rid of it on here (including me), bc we love our ludes no matter their defaults. id say keep the car as the biggest expense youre saying is the paint job which i dont believe is going to cost anywhere near 3k?! i could be completly wrong but that seems a bit steep to me.

Re: Should I sell my SH?

Yea I mean you can definitely find a place to properly do a paintjob for less than 1k (I'm assuming, body and paint shops are as common as pawn shops where I live, so competition is steep). If you wanted to replace the wheels I personally would go back to type SH wheels. That's just me though.

These are all just aesthetics though, it really depends on what matters to you most of all. I can give or take the gorgeous looks, but the main thing sounds like the clutch and tires from your post. Again it all trickles down to what you want. A clutch job is not expensive if you can do it yourself. Then again, nothing is really that expensive if you can do it yourself

Re: Should I sell my SH?

Do a clutch job and get tires if you need them. worry about looks later.

Re: Should I sell my SH?

Man that honestly isnt bad at all. The paint can wait. I agree with^^^. Do the clutch and tires first.

Right now I need a new motor, have to get my 5spd swap done, need 2 new tires, definitely need new paint, a little bit of body work, and I need to get a window of mine fixed. Soooo I say your not in too bad of shape. Lol

Re: Should I sell my SH?

thanks for all of the inputs. And damn $2,600 for a paint job from the dealership sounds pretty damn good lol. I'm guessing mine will be expensive since I don't want to go back to the original red, so all the prep work thats needed that was never done in the first place. But I do agree I want to make sure the car runs solid before the looks are taken care of. I was considering for awhile selling mine, and picking up another 5th gen that's in better shape since the cost difference wouldnt be as bad as the work needed on mine... or selling the SH and going to a 5th gen base model to have more options with mods. I drove a base that dyno'd at 241 HP and was pretty happy with that, so if i can get my SH to that I would be happy. Since I hear you can't go past 250HP without throwing ATTS out

Re: Should I sell my SH?

sometimes i see cars with excellent paint etc and busted drivetrain for sale real cheap. they don't want to invest in the $ for another motor.

Re: Should I sell my SH?

I'm all about getting a good, clean, low mileage base car with great exterior condition and looks, but judging on the pic you provided, the paint doesn't look that bad. You say it's got a clean title, has no rust, and honestly man if you got a compression test and found the engine is still running true, why not stick with that car, do the mods you want to it, and to top it all off paint it any color you want?

Not to mention, if you bought another that was in better physical condition, lower mileage, etc. there's no guarantee it won't need to be fixed up here and there either.

In the end you gotta do what you believe in, but that's just some food for thought.
