steering wheel vibration

Hello new here, I'm currently looking at buying a 98 prelude from a private party, aside from from small rust spots on the rear quart panel wheel well and around the motor mounts and driver n passenger seat brackets, car looks very well maintained. Turnig signals AC lights all signals work everything electrical seems fine almost brand new. Car has 123k and 5 spd transmission feels smooth. When I testrode it though I noticed slight steering wheel vibration at around 40 mph, guy says it needs new rotors n pads. My questions is what could be the worse case senerio here, could it be bad suspension system and what could be the most I would have to dish out if it turns out to be something real serious other than just warped rotors?

Re: steering wheel vibration

I'm guessing if not rotors or pads could be bad axles? Or suspension? How much money would I have to dish out given the worse case senerio

Re: steering wheel vibration

Worst case scenario is some suspension issues, but it should just need new rotors and pads. Try and knock a couple hundred bucks off the price to justify buying them.

Re: steering wheel vibration

Thanks for the reply, how much would a new suspension system cost parts and labor?

Re: steering wheel vibration

The front wheels might just be out of balance. If it only vibrates when you press on the brake then it's most likely your rotors. Otherwise if not then it's not your brakes.

Re: steering wheel vibration

You can get a new set of coilovers for all 4 corners for anywhere from 600+ add labor cost. Take it to a mechanic and have a mechanic check things out to let you know

Re: steering wheel vibration

Could be a broken belt in the tire..i know i've had that problem before and it would only show at certain speeds.

Re: steering wheel vibration

I mean the car is in excellent shape plus its all stock previous owner mustve took real good care of it (besides the rust on the rear wheel wells) I don't think it could be anything too serious plus from my test ride I didn't notice anything going over bumps at all. Thanks for the replys guys
