(Help)5th gen Prelude Idle problem

What's up everyone! I Have a 5th gen prelude (automatic) that idles roughly on cold starts. After it warms up the idle levels out at about 700rpm. After about 10 minutes of driving the idle gets lower every time I come to a stop. So low in fact that is has turned off on me. When it does this I also noticed that the oil light starts flickering unless I give it a bit of gas, which means I have to hold down the brake while simultaneously pushing slightly on the gas to keep the car from stalling. I couldn't find any vacuum leaks, the timing is perfect, just replaced the Idle control valve and I even tried adjusting the idle and still no luck

Recently I put in a new head gasket and water pump. Before that the car was still idling rough on colds starts but only after the repairs did it starting stalling on stops.. I am stumped! I don't know what else to do. If anyone can help I would mean a lot. Thanks!!!

TypeT- Thanks for your input. I haven't done any of those things you've mentioned Although i have considered changing the spark plug wire. Before I ran into this problem I took it to get smogged and the guy told me i would need new wires soon, your post just reminded me about that. I wonder if that might be the problem.

hall756- I didn't know that, thanks for the info! The vtec seems to be working fine and always kicks in.

its just basic maintenance that you havent done then

you should do all of those what I mentioned (well leave that o2 sensor to last, but change it too if anything else doesnt fix the problem + clean your injectors)

Re: (Help)5th gen Prelude Idle problem

Ok i figured out the problem. The spring in the cold start valve had lost tension over the years. So what we did what increase the tension of the spring by tightening it. That took care of the idle problem but we still had the flickering oil light to deal with. We then changed the oil pressure switch and that took care of the light... Thanks to everyone for their input! I hope this helps anyone with will the same problem.. :)
