This i know bro! Abel almost always has some joke to say on someones threads. 99.9% of the time its a joke and not a real comment. Though i don't complain because i do the same!
![]() I have been driving normal for the past 3 months and my rotors are still rusted. I just like looking at them especially since my wheels have gaps in between them enough to show the rust in the rotors. ![]()

Re: Surface Rust remover for rotors?
^^^ this.
Also, are you sure your rotors are making full contact withe the pads? If your pads are not seated correctly and wearing funny, they will cause high spots or rusted portions of the rotor to appear |

Re: Surface Rust remover for rotors?
The rust, has it been following you to public places? You might need a restraining order.

![]() As long as you don't hear a lot of grinding, crunching sounds when you brake, surface rust is normal. Now if you tap the rotor with a rubber mallet and it rains brown from the vent passages, those need to be replaced ASAP.

Re: Surface Rust remover for rotors?
If the rotors are not warped, then that's not really true (as fatal as your making it sound hence asap). I mean if there's a but load of rust in there then they are most likely old as fack, but its not a valid excuse to change rotors. If you work at a dealership or any shop where you have to show specifications in order to sell new rotors, you can't say oh well they have rust in them lol, you will be the laughingstock of the shop. On a personal note I love brake systems and abuse the hell out of my brakes so I would prob replace mine if it was too excessive, but my case atm is I have 1 year on my front brembo blank rotors on my accord and I already warped them lol.

Re: Surface Rust remover for rotors?
Mugen, can you post some pics of what your rotors look like so we have a better idea if they are bad or not? Also include the crosscut of the rotor to see if the vent passages are bad. Tapping with a mallet is for Drum brakes when you want to clear the surface of rust, and see if it needs replacement. I adapted it for disc rotors cause it made sense to check them. You don't have to do it, just throwing the idea out there.

Re: Surface Rust remover for rotors?
The rotors are going to be one of the last things to go bad when a car sits. The brake lines will rot out, the calipers will eventually seize up, and the fluid may absorb some moisture. But a cast iron disc just chillin is just going to build up some surface rust. The only way rotors would cause a system failure is by being paper thin causing brake fade which can still be avoided. A real brake system failure that you can rant about using caps lock would be if a master cylinder is failing intermittently, or driving with leaks in the hydraulic system. Rotors are very important to the braking system, but your overseeing them way too much. Like said though everyone has their own personal preferences.
