nah man you want a good radar buy the k40 its one of the best out there. they even have one that blocks your car from being read on the radar guns.

i know the radar goes off next to two types of cars merc and lex i think. theyhave radar detectors and reduce speed automaticly which sets the k40 off.

http://www.k40.com/othe_unde_main.html

pricey but well worth it imo

the only mounting shiznit needed (which it comes with btw) is the one bracket that has 2 suction cups attached to it that you stick to the windshield.
teh angle between the windshield and dash on a 4th gen is absolutely perfect for the cobra and you can wedge it in there, and that ish NEVER comes out (only when i have madd wheel hop @ the track )

i have a cobra and it does great but i have it mounted in the drivers side corner of the windshield the the wire is run down through the gauge cluster and all so i dont have a wire hanging around in my car!! it's kinda funny because when people get in the passenger seat they cant see it and when it starts going off they're like "what the hell is that"

all detectors are a false sense of security, only the really expensive ones work. and those are usually illegal because they work so well..

Valentine....blah! They are the most over ratted as well. Used one. Not that great. Beltronics RX65. has great features not all radar detectors have. you can shorten the turn on sequence so you dont get SQUAK SQUAK BEEP REEE REEE MA MA MA God I hate that. Mine is hard wired to switched power turn car on, one low beep. Thats it! It also has automute where it gives you a few loud alerts and then it quiets down. You can adjust sensitivity of bands. No cops use x band here and most falses are x band so turn it off. Porblem solved. They work for miles. I live in NW montana and went to see my parents over east of the mountains so we're cuising across the prairie and 1 little chirp for a mile gradually in creasing. Some HP left his radar on so I knew he was there before he even saw me.
They are like 329 bucks retail price.

Someone earlier was right they can be a false sense of security. If that cop turns it on the radar when your going to fast the little lights on your windshield are just the prelude to the party lights! (Ha! prelude...nice little pun...yeah...oh I gotta get out of the house)

Just keep in the back of your mind mate that if you do happen to get caught, that little box on the dash beeping and flashing might make it a little hard to argue that you were't aware you were speeding.

Completely false.. if you know how to use them not at all. Radar detectors are only illegal in 2 or 3 states.

well i might be crazy. but some of my friends wit 5th gens and a 3000gt never use a radar and never seem to get caught. i have like 5000 people in my town. maybe 20 cops and state po's. it just seems unnecessary to buy one for that much. will the cheap ones do just as good. they just wont deflect the signal from the cops right. i dont care that much as long as it lets me know they are around

Well ultimately they will all tell you if a cop is around WITH HIS RADAR ON. Cheap ones will false more, they don't work from as far away, and will certainly false more. I would rather have no radar detector than a cheapo. They are SOOO annoying. It just depends on what your priorities are. If you wanna buy stuff to alert cops then by all means (loud exhaust, flashy-er paint, big spoilers, unpainted bodys kits yeah, really common here) by all means. But Ive got a red 5th gen lude with shiny silver 17s and cops draw no attention when I slow down a mile before the hi-po even knows im speeding.

so basically the more expensive u get the longer distance it can detect and if it scrambles the signal or not. plus the little stuff like the annoying beeps. i think i will just jack one from walmart.

91SI4ws: Thats hillarious, the same thing happens to me, i wired mine up my a pilar and it sits behind my rear view mirror on the drivers side and is almost completly out of sight from the passenger.

Im going with the Escort Passport 9500i from best buy as soon as my discount clears. Its $449 and is awesome. And if anyone has any questions about radar detectors i can answer just about anything for the most part.
