Icon5 Engine questions n personal opinions

Hello i am new to the forum i was hopeing i could get some good advice from all u prelude lovers. I have a 5th gen lude with a swaped h23a1 dohc vtec motor on a 5 sp tranny, it has 175,000 miles n need a pretty desent tune up. I want to know more about my h23a1 dohc vtec motor and ur personal opionion on what motor is better (more torgue, more hp, faster for my lude in general) an h22 or mine. which will handle better with a turbo n give me more performance n satisfaction. Im also looking at a k20a type r motor with a 6 speed tranny, beside the pain in the ass instalation would it be worth it over n h series with a turbo. If u have any other great ideas that i didnt mention please feel free to post it im looking for anybodys personal opionion.

Re: Engine questions n personal opionions

i think the k20a swap would be cool if u did it but a turbo h22 would be better since its a turbo h22. lol.

Actually, you have an H22A1 or A4 motor -- 5th gens for North America didn't use anything else, and the H23A1 was unique to 4th gen Preludes and the JDM Ascot Innova sedan.

Go from there....

Your probably correct and the op is just mistaken but he could very well have a h23vtec hybrid. Then it would be a h23a1 block with a vtec(h22)head. Just saying cos you told him what motor he had when he very well could have what he said he has.

Like I said tho, your probably right about what motor he has.

Re: Engine questions n personal opionions

A decent turbo'd K-swap done right will run you ~10K and a lot of hassle getting things to work with the rest of the car. If you put that into your H, you could be making a reliable 700hp, making dudes in Dodge Vipers cry (once you get traction!).

What is the signifigance of having the h23 block with the h22 head?

The extra .1liter. Its just a slightly bigger motor. It would be good to go all motor with.

Re: Engine questions n personal opionions

An all motor H series is a killer engine in general but a H23/22 vtec head with a turbo or supercharger would be a nasty street car stick with the 23 in my opinion and build from there the H23 is a great starting block to build from

Re: Engine questions n personal opionions

Stick with the h series man I know several guys that have swapped civics, integras, crxs' and even a Nissan sentra to the h series. My old 4th gen had an h23 vtec and it had no problem with morons and integras and could hold its own against an s 2000.

Re: Engine questions n personal opionions

I'm not a fan of the H22 to be honest but that's not to say that you can't make stupid power out of one or an H23. I think the fastest turbo Prelude right now running an H22 is 9.65 or around there in the quarter running a turbo. Either way you're going to spend money. If money isn't an option I like the K better but again you can make a ton of power with turbo either way. There is also a ton of aftermarket support for the K-Series right now, and easy to find anything you're looking for. Really it's (and I always stress this) your personal preference. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks.

Good luck

Actually check that it was 9.33 seconds @ 161MPH. Yeah it can be done.
