Icon5 4th or 5th gen H22A?

Ok well i got my a/c fixed at my mechanic and had previously told me he had an DOHC Vtec engine at his shop laying around. I though it was going to be some B engine or something turns out its an JDM H22A. Now i'm planing on buying it. Even though its been sitting outside for like 2 or more years since then much snow has passed and rain as well so it will have to be at a good price. since im going to have to rebuild the whole engine and replace ALOT of parts.
Question: How do i know if its a H22A off a 4th gen or 5th gen. The Engine has no fuel injectors, engine harness nothing just the head with black valve cover, block, pistons, intake manfold, and a broken throttle body. no sensor what so ever just the TPS.
Is their a way of telling buy the vin number that it has? or is their something else
.

Re: 4th or 5th gen H22A?

No. VIN can tell where the block is from, only a complete tear down can verify internals. If it's as good as you think, do a full rebuild, attach your parts. It's safe to say mechanics have a 70% good idea if a engine is chock full of goodies, some don't.

Drop the oil pan and look inside first to verify there's no shavings or damage, being 2 years old, with no inspection.

Re: 4th or 5th gen H22A?

One last question can i convert the engine to OBDII since its just the Intake manifold, block and head. Theirs no fuel injectors or sensors.

Yes that why! i actually like the OBD II since its more convenient for me when searching the source/code of a Check engine light and other sensors.
But it is it possible?

that's probably a good idea since the engine is going no where since no one at that shop knows what kind of engine it is. Thats probably why its been sitting their for so many years without being touched. d
