May sound stupid but...how to transport a hood?

Planning on picking up an OEM 4th gen hood locally to replace my dented/rusted one, and trying to come up with how I'll transport the hood...

Won't have much time so I'm thinking of unbolting the hood on my current car and just letting it sit on the car via the hood latch. I'll drive damn carefully.

Then I just pop it off and put the new one on and also transport it like so.

But then the old damaged hood will need to be disposed of...

Re: May sound stupid but...how to transport a hood?

I put a hood in the back of my truck and used a spare tire, with out a rim to support it; then I added at blanket on the wall of the bed for added protection. If you're trying to ship it, try a freight company. I've had good luck doing a google search for a broker company that shops around for the best price for you; they often get way better discounts than a regular joe would get. The best bet is to have a friend that works in a warehouse ship it for you. They always have good shipping connections

Really!
I have seen at least 2-3 4th gens with a tow hitch. In fact when i was car shopping i was looking a 4th gen that had a tow hitch on it. It was so tiny though i couldn't really imagine anything connecting to it.

Re: May sound stupid but...how to transport a hood?

If it's local then get some rags and cover your roof and lay the other hood upsidedown n strap it down to your car. Jus take some nylon string from Home Depot anytime before you pick up the hood. It's cheap but affective!! Just have to drive the speed limit home and you should be good!

This is exactly what I was going to say. But if you have a friend with a pick up or suv it'll be much easier since they can just throw it in the back. Also, you could rent a van for a day (usually about $20USD) plus a couple dollars for mileage. And if you go through U-Haul you only have to be 18.

I have the trailer hitch on my lude. My lude pulled dual jet ski, a small fishing boat, and small trailer. I don't have any pics of my lude pulling dual jet ski but I only have two old ass pics that I pull a small trailer and dolly tow (I use dolly tow haul my friends ef Si that broke down on interstate 4. SMH for him... He should get AAA membership) here are the old ass pics.

just take your old hood off at home, drive to wherever new hood is, put on new hood, drive away. its not rocket science. i had my CF hood delivered to where i work, i just drove to work without a hood and put it on at work

Err... maybe that's cool in your area, but here in jersey cops catch you do that chit and they will tow your car.

Please check local laws before doing this....

Holy chitt what kinda ski's were they? Smaller, older, single's?

In the STi, I had to tow my '01 STX 1100 (triple) and an '00 Ultra (double) about a mile down the road to drop them in the lake, and it was sketchy enough that I wouldn't feel comfortable to tow those 2 any distance longer than that. And your F22 only has like 1/3 the HP of the EJ25 too haha, that musta been sketchhhh

Re: May sound stupid but...how to transport a hood?

Put a wool blanket or a movers padded blanket on the hood of your car and fit the hood between the folds then tide it down with nylon twine, comes in white and is good for 150lb test. Keeps from scratching roof or the new hood.

Honestly, pay for the uhaul van for a day, stop messing around.

I drove hood-less in my 240 once. People thought the intake was a big turbo. Yeah, I felt cool as ****.

Yeah drive with no hood or get a huge blanket and some straps and strap it either to your hood or roof. Good Luck

Re: May sound stupid but...how to transport a hood?

did some searching on local auto forums and found it's legal to drive w/o hood. one guy even drove his lude for an entire summer with no hood and cops didn't say anything.

guess i'll do it. lol
