Limp mode

So my 98 prelude is stuck in limp mode after the 5 speed conversion and motor swap. And by limp mode I mean my car has a 3500rpm rev limit.

We tested out a few different theories, tried 3 different ECUs to see if it was in tuning, we tried hooking back up the auto shifter to put it in drive or neutral and so far that hadn't worked either, still missing a piece to try that again.

And ideas on what it could be?

Re: Limp mode

...yes its VTEC...

To give a little more information, its an H22A, running the automatic wiring harness(loose wires/plugs ftl), running of a Hondata ECU. We were running a chipped p28 but the guy that did the chipping and basemapping in knoxville did a crappy job I believe, and we had misfires on all cylinders, so we borrowed a Hondata and threw it in there and it fired up correctly.

Re: Limp mode

I'm not sure about the limp mode but the pouring oil is most likely due to a bad oil cooler O-ring

Well the oil is the crank seal after all :/ had a minor leak at the base of my dipstick, fixed that and the small leak from the drain plug.

Leaks are all fixed but the car is still in limp mode, still trying to figure it out. Any ideas?

Did you check the knock sensor? Or is it disabled in your tune?

Re: Limp mode

Then that makes it sound even MORE like a knock sensor. That is definitely the first place I would start.

Re: Limp mode

If you have a bad knock sensor, that will cause the ecu to retard the timing quite a bit. You can adjust the timing via the distributor but not enough to cause a drivability issue, so i doubt its that.
