All WAS well; now only blowing hot air

Hi to all;

I did a search, here and on Google, and I saw some things that were similar to what I'm experiencing, but nothing identical. I hope someone might have a good word for me. I have a 93 Prelude Si, automatic transmission. Last week, I did the "soldering fix" mentioned here to repair my climate control.

It was GREAT! All the buttons lit up, and the A/C worked PERFECTLY. Hot air when the lever was set to hot, wonderfully cold air when it was set to cold with the A/C turned on, air coming from where it was supposed to. In the last couple of days, I've noticed that it's only blowing hot air, no matter what. Here's my rundown:

-I checked to make sure that the temp adjust cable is still attached and functioning underneath the passenger side dash area.

-My temp gauge looks normal--starts off on the "cold" side, then settles about halfway up; no obvious overheating, in other words.

-No other running problems, I don't notice any weird noises or strange dash lights.

-There have been no puddles under the car--I don't think it's a coolant leak, in other words.

-I just got the car a short time ago, and the whole thing was pretty well overhauled by my Honda mechanic; I'll give him a call tomorrow to see if they checked the coolant level, but since a state inspection was part of what I was having done, I have to think they did. I can find out, but not tonight...

-I know that the guy who had it before me did have a new radiator installed a couple of years ago. I have the receipt showing that he bought it, and had a mechanic's shop install it.

That's all I have for now; the funny part, to me, is that it was so great just a couple of days ago when I first did the climate control repair. I know that has nothing to do with whatever it's doing now, but it just seems... I don't know... SAD!

I didn't get home til dark, so there's not a lot I can do tonight; I'll check coolant levels in the morning, and give my Honda guys a call. In the meantime, if anyone gets this and has a good "checklist" of things for me to check, or a revelation of, "Hey, I know EXACTLY what it's doing, and here's how to fix it!!" then that would be even better...

I've learned a LOT from everyone here since I got my Prelude; once I get it all-the-way fixed up, I'll proudly post pictures here. Sometimes, those awesome write-ups and photos are just what I need to keep me encouraged--like right now, for example... Thanks for whatever input or help you can give; I hope that someday I can have enough "Prelude Smarts" to post helpful advice here, too!

UPDATE: In the light of day, I was able to get a better look at things; the problem is now fixed, all is well again, the A/C and vents are doing what they're supposed to do. Sorry for the inconvenience; I guess I started to panic... Thanks!

what was wrong with it?

ps the coolant level wont effect how the A/C works, although low coolant is still bad, if by coolant you mean antifreeze........low freon would stop the AC though.

Hi, Hojemwod;

I was reading a lot of your past posts the last couple of days! Thanks for asking...

Bear in mind I said it was dark when I got home, so my options for checking on things were kind of limited! It turns out that the temp control cable DID come off of the little pin underneath the passenger side dash, though I didn't see it last night when I went flashlight-exploring. I also felt up in there, and it felt like it was still attached! My bad, and not my most shining moment...

I got it very well re-attached--I hope--and all is well.

Thanks for the info about the coolant; I panic easily, since I had a water pump go out on me one time (in another car), and the car basically vomited all of it's antifreeze out the bottom! I've learned a lot--FAST--about how the system works, since it was all I was studying earlier today, til I got it fixed.

So it's all good; now I can move on to whatever the next project turns out to be...

Thanks again!
