clutch issues

so recently i've been having some clutch issues on my 01 base. At first i thought my whole clutch was done for because my dad drives my car every now and then and he rides the clutch like crazy, but i found a tear in the rubber boot of the slave cylinder that was leaking brake fluid. basically my rpms are higher then they need to be (35 mph in 3rd gear has my rpms at 3500) and the pedal just feels really loose because of the lack of fluid. I've been driving it every now and then while i wait for a new slave to come in the mail, but my main question is if replacing the slave will fix the whole problem. since the clutch has been slipping a little will it cause any further damage to where i would need a new clutch?

Re: clutch issues

There's no guaranteeing a new slave will fix it. But a new slave SHOULD fix the loose pedal. And it def doesn't help that your dad slips the clutch too.

Once the new slave is in, in 5th gear at 60mph you should be @ 3K, that's normal.
Also, once your up to ~50-60mph, SLAM on the gas!!! If the rpm's shoot right up, your clutch is slipping and needs replacing.

Re: clutch issues

replaced the slave cylinder and the problem was fixed, however i had a leak somewhere in the system (i think the clutch line wasn't tightened all the way >:(. ) and i think my master cylinder went dry. i re-bled the clutch and the problem persisted. what do i do? if i keep re-bleeding the system will my problem be solved or do i need to replace the MC?

Re: clutch issues

When bleeding the clutch (or any hydraulic system) you need to ENSURE the fluid level never drops below the minimum height of the highest component in the system (in your case, the master cylinder).
If the fluid gets too low, air gets into the system, than when you go to bleed it, all your doing is compressing the air bubble, and not pushing the fluid thru.

Sounds like you still have air in the system; keep bleeding it.
