Need Advice

this is my first thread ever so bear with me. i have a 1992 prelude si with no modifications other than a cold air intake at the moment. i was wondering the best ways to gain more horsepower but i dont have a couple grand to throw in it right now. im just looking for the more affordable/effective ways that will boost acceleration. suggestions?

Welcome to Preludezone. Pics if you got.

Maintain your car, use that money to keep your car on the road. No one here will ever tell you anything about tuning your Prelude, unless you open up that conversation. If money's tight, don't do "little things". Ignore Harlots, Acquire Currency, Repair Carriage.

Re: Need Advice

As Sideswipe said don't spend money on small mods. You already have CAI so your good on that. Other good ideas is to go and get a good Cat-back exhaust system. and Maybe some headers.
Whens the next tune up i recommend going with some NGk plugs and wires to help you get some better MPG and Acceleration.
Otherwise either save till you got something or just spend on exterior parts to make it look nice.

Re: Need Advice

That is the joy and sorrow of having well-engineered, highly-tuned engine right out of the factory: it's great in stock form, but if you want to make it better, it's not going to easy or cheap. The stock parts on H-series engines are actually pretty good, so bolt-on I/H/E doesn't yield all that much (unless they're cheap, poorly-engineered parts, in which case they'll reduce power).

I agree with the folks recommending suspension -- again, the stock suspension's pretty good, but the compromises necessary for regular production means there's more room for improvement. Make sure you leave enough suspension travel that you're not cornering on the bumpstops...the car handles terribly then!

...like the stock ones. :) Still the best choice out there for a stock or mildly-tweaked engine. Autozone has started carrying NGK again around me, otherwise, go to the Rock Auto website and order them.
