custom exhuast question

i already have a skunk2 exhaust tip with the stock pipes, and im looking to upgrade to a full catback.

basically im asking if its possible to buy an eBay exhaust and use the piping with my skunk2 tip. and if any welding will be required.

Mandrel Exhaust Piping Kits - KTeller

there you go, just get some resonator and weld everything together

Re: custom exhuast question

Do you happen to know what size diameter is your skunk2 muffler? If I were you, I'd get the Kteller 3 inch to a Vibrant flat black 3 inch muffler.

This is what you should do... especially if you want better gains

Re: custom exhuast question

Would something like this setup though be loud? I am looking to fix my exhaust and i want a lot of gains, but not to loud. I want a performance note, but not ricey.

Re: custom exhuast question

ANY exhaust you put on a 4 cylinder Honda is going to be loud. you can't have performance and quietness, this isn't an Aston Martin. it's a little but it on the loud side, definitely quoted than your standard N1 style exhaust. it's got a nice deep tone to it though, almost like a wrx

Re: custom exhuast question

Ok. I guess that answers my question. I am looking for a deep performance sound. Not like the stereotypical ricer sound. Would adding a silencer to the muffler take anything away from the gains of exhaust system?

3" loud
2,5" makes it more like a sport car sound

dont know is it just advertising.... I havent use that at all, no need really

but if you use it, it just reduce that "deep" sounds what youre looking for

Re: custom exhuast question

Try the Kteller 2.5 inch, with Vibrant flat black for the sporty sound as stated earlier, just to see how it sounds. Unless you can wait for me, because in a couple of weeks I'm getting a vibrant flat black welded on my current 2.5 inch kteller piping. Then maybe I'll post up a video if i feel like it. The resonator is just a way to tune the exhaust tone a bit, but I think it restricts it.

Ok, but what kind of numbers does each one produce? Has anybody seen the difference in the hp curve between the two?

Re: custom exhuast question

^
oem place like:

catbacks doesnt effect that much... in dyno you can see some difference but when driving - nope. 3" gives some torque and 2,5" few hp more... but again dont know can you feel or see the difference outside dyno (exept you can hear 3" ). and nobody ever talks about does 3" effect (lacking-wise) to responsiveness/revving

from skunk's site

"QUESTION
------------------------------------------------------
How much torque and horsepower do your MegaPower Exhaust Systems deliver?

ANSWER
------------------------------------------------------
The exhaust system will free up about 4-5 HP by itself (results may vary). Final power gains are dependent on a combination of the exhaust and existing modifications or enhancements to the vehicle."

Re: custom exhuast question

Ok, that answers my question. I had a Greddy EVO2 on my Civic and I noticed a little bit of gain but I had a K&N intake as well, so with the combo I felt some gains. Just curious. Thanks for the help.

Re: custom exhuast question

Yeah I've got the Greddy Ti-C with a resonator and its loud. Definitely not a ricey sound though, really deep in the lower rpms and screaming when it hits VTEC--quite possibly one of the best sounding exhausts I've heard on a Honda. With the silencer in though it sounds just like a typical fart can from eBay; like the previous post said, any silencer will take away that mean tone that you're looking for

So thats the odd smell I have been smelling lately.

I think what my plan is going to be is to do a 2.5" pipe, with a vebrant muffler. Now I am probably going to upgrade my cat coverter, and header at the same time. Might as well since im going to be working in the sam area.

Which header has better gains, a 4-2-1 or a 4-1?

^^Ok. Any specific brand that you have found works best, or do they all give you the same gains?
