car over reving its self and terrible smell

Icon8 car over reving its self and terrible smell

so for awhile now my car has been over reving its self like when im in third gear ill go up to 4,000 rps and shift to fourth but my rpms stay at 4,000 and dont drop for like 15 seconds and the other day i took off from second gear and my rpms when to 5,000 and just stayed there for like 10 seconds before they went past 5,000 and after it does this burning plastic smell comes from my engine bay i just put on a shortram intake but i was running fine for like 2 weeks with it on please sombody help me the over reving thing is costing me alot in gas

I would bet that. Give it a big rev, then sidestep the clutch. If you don't light up the front bags, then your clutch is stuffed.

it sounds like the clutch thats what it was doin in my friends civic when it went out

oh yea the cable that opens the throttle body is loose is it supposed to be

Even if it was loose.. it would not make your car rev up. Actually.. a loose cable will make you have to press the gas down alittle bit more before your car starts to accel.

SOoo.. having a loose cable will make your car less likely to stay revving.

It sounds like your clutch is going out.

yahh man of course its your clutch.. what else would the smell be

do the rpms go up when you're in fifth on the freeway and then drop back down when you give it some extra gas?

rev the car up and just take you left foot off of it as fast as you can with your gas pedal to the floor. also known as dumping the clutch.
