Re: Best Engines?

There is no "best" engine.

It's all preference based on what you intend to do with the car in the future.

Re: Best Engines?

I have also considered the H22A4 since my car uses the OBD II i can put in a H22a4 and also will be less painful so that it may pass emissions in Cali since i plan to move over their.

Re: Best Engines?

You honestly only have 2 feasible choices. H23, or H22. F20b isn't c.a.r.b. legal, and Turbo-ing a F22 is equally illegal if the hydrocarbons are high, The thought of turbo fails inspection. Don't swap anything unless you intend to build your car under Nazi-fornia regulations.

you might as well put a 7.1 V8 in the trunk.

Well i have considered getting the actual JDM H23 Dohc Vtec or just getting an H23 and adding an H22 Head with some forged pistons and some other improved internals.

Re: Best Engines?

Like it was said before it depends on what route you want to go. Either N/A or F/I and what your goals are hp wise. Either way I`m pretty sure your going to have to and can get your car smogged under the table if you know what I mean...

You seem to have completely missed the point of my post, otherwise, you would have understood what I was getting at. Every motor has it's pro's/con's. You need to help us help you by giving a little more information rather than asking "what is best - i want to do this in the future". If not, then you're just asking for a bunch of biased opinions from people that don't know what your goals are and what you want. Nobody here is physic...

here, i'll throw out a bunch of random questions;

Are you obd2?

If OBD2 - do you need to pass the plug in test?

Do you have visual inspection?

Do you need to pass smog?

Do you intend this to be a future track car?

Do you want to go turbo?

Do you want to go N/A?

Do you want to go supercharger?

If forced induction, do you want to build the motor or slap on and go?

Do you want a straight swap and go?

Do you want me to ask you more questions to narrow down the best options for your car - or just laugh as this thread remains pointless without a goal.

See, i'm here to help (or at least try to), not start an argument. But i'm apparently pretty good at doing both, so just let me know

i think the cbr 600 motor is the best. it works pretty good at the strip, kills in the twistys, and is a awesome wheelie machine even if it only make like 100hp....

Re: Best Engines?

Dude H22 it's been proven more HP + TQ. By the time u build up the power on the H23 & F20 to the H22 potential It would cost the same to build the H22. Some people are torque people some people like high end power in either case H22 IMO is the best. Do ur research as far as which type of h22 and decide if u want n/a or go boost in the future.

Which ever u prefer if u want to see nice gains than expect to budget $4500-6000 doing it right. Also get u an LSD tranny.

common guys, he's not asking you to pick an engine for him. He's simply asking, what engine, do YOU THINK is best for those cars. Its pretty easy... here i'll show you :P

I like the f20b because its got iron sleeves and s type cams and springs. Its Dohc and vtec and the 2.0l rating is fine for me. I like the way the engine sits back in the bay and I think JDM engines are more true to honda... oh, also plan to turbo some day and its going in my 4th gen.

No, he's asking our opinions on the best motor for his future swap project in (who would've guessed) his car!

But to make a suggestion - dude should totally drop in one of these

I like the f20b because its got iron sleeves and s type cams and springs. Its Dohc and vtec and the 2.0l rating is fine for me. I like the way the engine sits back in the bay and I think JDM engines are more true to honda... oh, also plan to turbo some day and its going in my 4th gen.
This is what i was mainly asking of you guys! My fault should have been a bit more informative on what i was mainly asking for.

If not, then you're just asking for a bunch of biased opinions from people that don't know what your goals are and what you want. Nobody here is physic...

here, i'll throw out a bunch of random questions;

But i'm apparently pretty good at doing both, so just let me know
Where my car is a 96 so its the only 4th gen that came stock with the OBD II so the H22A4 shouldn't be that much of problem in fact i believe dropping an H22A1 would probably be a bigger issue since finding a OBD II H22a1 aren't super easy to find. As for turbo yes i plan on adding one but i want to see if i can find a kit thats street legal like the one that Ederbrock has made for the Civics. So to me nothing is impossible just needs a few thinking to make it happen.
