Icon5 What Valve Cover Paint to Use???

I want to paint the valve covers on my F22A1 but i can't think of what paint it uses. I know its a black color yet it kind of a rubber paint. Any one who has painted their F22A1 valve covers. I want to just paint them black again not another color since the paint is cracking and chipping off. Also can i do it while its still installed in the engine? Or do i have to remove them?

All I know is you have to remove the valve cover from the head. im not too sure about what paint to use. I think its called VHT paint or something like that. just make sure clean the valve cover and remove the previous paint for the best results

Re: What Valve Cover Paint to Use???

There are write ups for this, basically pull the cover off, clean it, and use aircraft paint stripper or whatever it's called, clean the surface, with acetone, then grease the areas you don't want paint on, cover up the holes for the plugs and oil filler cap, go to town with engine paint, specifically this because of heat. After it's painted transfer it to the oven and bake it for a good while.

Re: What Valve Cover Paint to Use???

engine enamel works great. I've done all mine with that.

use Tal-Stript Aircraft remover. I get mine at my work (advance auto parts) and it works WONDERS in getting all the old paint off in the cracks and crevices instead of sanding it all off. Just make sure you use gloves and you're outside. I usually use a toothbrush to help the paint come off then spray it down with a hose. Rinse and repeat.

Re: What Valve Cover Paint to Use???

I'm getting the VHT wrinkle paint so that it looks the same but newer then i'll top it of with either a Black or Gold Mugen Oil filler cap. still haven't chosen and i'll remove the paint with the aircraft remover.
