Fixed one HID, then the other breaks?

So I just replaced the HID ballast for my right side fog, but once I replace it, I noticed that the left HID fog won't turn on. I replaced the HID bulb and it wasn't that. I don't have an extra ballast, but i'll order one if that's the problem. Is it taking too much power or a mere coincidence?

Re: Fixed one HID, then the other breaks?

prob a coincidence, some of those ballasts are crap and just dont last..

but just make sure ur not putting ur lights on first before starting the car. Always start ur motor first, then turn them on.

my truck has auto headlights and they turn on as soon as u turn the key when its dark out , unless the P brake is set ..... so one day i forgot to set the brake and my wife started the truck as the ballast was trying to illuminate the lights... i watched them flicker and then sure enough one ballast stopped working..

and my ballast are real good i have the same set in another car over 3 years no issue ...they just dont like low voltage thats what messes them up

since i changed that ballast, ive made sure to not start the truck when the lights are just turning on and ive had zero issues

That's exactly what I did! I turn on my headlights while car is off to test the lights out. I guess that did it.. thanks for the advice

its okay to test them when the cars engine is off....just dont turn the motor over to start it until u shut the lights back off...
then once the motor is running turn them back on

thats at least what ive experianced

i also had to change the settings in my alarm and locks so my lights didnt flash when i locked or unlocked it...ive heard that fuks the ballasts up too

I also wouldn't be surprised if the fact that they're in your fog's dramatically decreased the life of them.

Re: Fixed one HID, then the other breaks?

I was thinking more along the lines of them constantly turning on/off with the high beams.

But if you have it setup like that in two of your cars for awhile...

Re: Fixed one HID, then the other breaks?

It most likely is a coincidence like said before, with h.i.d kits you either get a good ballast that last 3 years or one that lasts 3 weeks. It's best to always get an h.i.d kit with warranty just for such reasons. All kits are made in china but some are better then others, try and stay away from the ones that are in the 30-50 dollar range and go for onces closer to the 80 dollar range, it really is you get what you pay for.
