240sx Issues

Hey everyone, I've got a few issues with my 240sx that I was hoping you all could shed some light on. I figured I'd post it here because most Zilvians and other 240 forums are full of asshole fanboys that provide no help.

First off, my heat isn't that great. It takes a long time to heat up, way past operating temperature. I was thinking partially clogged heater core? Any thoughts on this?

Next, when I change the vent settings (where the air goes 'defrost, dash, floor' I hear a squeal like the little motor moving the selector in the dash is rubbing. Could that be my issue?

Next, the lights on my climate control do not illuminate. I thought it was just the bulb, but they came on shortly the other day then disappear again. Wiring?

My head lights are funky. My slow setting will only work if the headlights are off. With the headlights on, the slow setting does nothing, but the medium and fast settings are fine. I'm clueless on this one.

The gas door won't pop. The trunk will though. The wire doesn't seem seized. How should I tackle this?

My trunk and hood latches have a nasty habit of not locking. Mainly, the hood. It could take 20 - 25 minutes of constantly slamming and closing to get it to hold. What's going on here? I've lubricated it several times.

I get a weird noise from the transmission. When the clutch is engaged, not disengaged, I get a weird hum that sounds like fluid moving. My friend thinks it's the pilot bearing. Any ideas?

My brake lights sometimes stay on after I'm out of the car. I have to open my door and tap the pedal a little to get them to go off. Bad wire or brake light switch?

Finally, and most importantly, I have a slight misfire. It seems to only misfire at idle, but the seller mentioned it will do it above 4500 rpm's as well (which I have not surpassed). We tested the injectors and it seems that no.3 is a little lean compared to the rest, but wouldn't that cause an issue across the board.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

First off, my heat isn't that great. It takes a long time to heat up, way past operating temperature. I was thinking partially clogged heater core? Any thoughts on this? VERY slow heater??? : Nissan Online Mechanic

Next, when I change the vent settings (where the air goes 'defrost, dash, floor' I hear a squeal like the little motor moving the selector in the dash is rubbing. Could that be my issue?
Does it sound as if a squirrel or other small animal is dying under your dash? Like a screetching/grinding noise? If so, it's probably the blower motor bearings. One of them has dried up and is not moving (that's noise you hear). The cold weather will make it worse. To make it stop turn on to the highest speed. (quick fix)

Next, the lights on my climate control do not illuminate. I thought it was just the bulb, but they came on shortly the other day then disappear again. Wiring? 240sx Climate Control and Dash Light Replacement
Reseat (jiggle)the connection and if some bulbs are burnt, use above thread.

My head lights are funky. My slow setting will only work if the headlights are off. With the headlights on, the slow setting does nothing, but the medium and fast settings are fine. I'm clueless on this one.Slow settings om what? your lights dim with the Heat/AC?

The gas door won't pop. The trunk will though. The wire doesn't seem seized. How should I tackle this? PDF my friend or http://zilvia.net/f/s-chassis/288272...ady) Car Forum

My trunk and hood latches have a nasty habit of not locking. Mainly, the hood. It could take 20 - 25 minutes of constantly slamming and closing to get it to hold. What's going on here? I've lubricated it several times. The latch needs adjusting. This happens as time passes because uses the latch bolt supports weight and it gets pulled down. Loosen the bolt and move the latch up so it closes properly. Trunk?

My brake lights sometimes stay on after I'm out of the car. I have to open my door and tap the pedal a little to get them to go off. Bad wire or brake light switch? Readjust your brake pedal, or leave it alone. pumping the brake (while off) tightens the system, so it's not a crazy P.I.T.A.

Whoops, I wrote this when I was very exhausted. I didn't realize all of these problems were so common. I guess I didn't really deserve a thread... lol

I meant to say the headlight problem is related to my wiper blades. The blades won't work on slow unless the headlights are off, but they work fine on the other settings.

For the blower motor, it's not the motor blowing air that makes noise, it only comes up when I change the direction of flow. Like the little valve deal that redirects air inside the dash is worn out or rubbing something.

The hood latch may have been pure stupidity on my problem. I think I fixed it. As for the trunk, I have no idea.

I'll check the rest when I have a computer and not my phone. Thanks man, I appreciate it greatly!

Stop trolling. If you've got nothing useful to say, hit the back button. I didn't create a thread asking for your opinion on my car.

yeah the trolling **** gets kind of old.. it's a forum meant to help people not knock people's vehicles.

anyways, some of the problems you mentioned are kind of common (so I've heard) on a 240. My friend is building one to drift with and he had a few of those problems, but i don't know how he went about fixing them. I hope you figure it out man

Nah, no offense to a 240 but they aren't for me.

I've had an s2000... lol

If I ever go back RWD it'll be a Miata, E30, or another S2000.

Re: 240sx Issues

What the hell did I just walk into? RWD blasphemy. If any of you are going to do it right, purchase a sloppy girl like my GTO! (will wait for Prelude13 to say something about that, LOL)
1.Subaru=4th genners, except , Hardknox, Randall, phantom, they just gotta be different!
2.Evo= 5th genners, will never know why!

Civic SI= owners truly loyal to Honda and are waiting for used STI/EVO to be cheap!

1/2/3 genners? What ever can keep us on the road, nothing really feels as nice as our preludes. I owned an 1994 5speed S long enough, with a mild drop and nice setup, NOT MY SIDESWIPE, so I just went muscle coupe. I really need to move where I can drive my Mona all the damn time, LOL

Dija find those solutions Randall? For your info, the KA24 has a timing chain, not a belt so if the previous owner drifted alot, he probably stretched it so valve float and misfiring aplenty.

I only went 240 because I could afford it. I would take an STi without hesitation, lol. Especially over an Evo!

I haven't had much time to check it out due to weather and school. I've been looking into getting injectors first to eliminate them.

Also, glad you mentioned that chain idea. I knew it had a chain, but it never occurred to me that it could be stretched. We kinda thought timing was part of the misfire. I guess a timing chain replacement will be soon then.

I forgot to mention, I spun a rod bearing in my lude, that's why I'm focused on this at the moment.

LS1 is trash? The small block chevy motors have everything you can ask for in a motor, reliability, power, and durability. They offer a lot more than you can ask from any four cylinder.

Nice and narrowminded. Instead of the entire GM performance catalog at your fingertips, you rather import a Nissan RB? Or try finding support for a 5.6 Titan V8 swap? Whatever, you missed the part where I was kidding. But kudos on changing the thread direction.

Randall, any updates?

Prelude: Because all great stories have one. Just like Honda.

Why dont you swap a LS1 into your Prelude then?

I own a Learjet. Why dont we swap that powerplant in?

Mr.Sideswipe I have read some of your posts in this forum and you so arrogantly tell every member you own a v8 car doesn't mean they should too.

So I am narrowminded. Fine. At least I'm not arrogant.

...waiting for kids to post youtube videos of Civics with ls1 swaps...

Re: 240sx Issues

First off, SideSwipe isn't arrogant and he's right, the 5.7 is the practical swap. He's also joking so chill the hell out -_-

Secondly, yes, I am slowly making progress! I'll update from my laptop better, but I've got many parts in the mail and I'm solving many of the issues :)

Well first off thats uncalled for, secondly, I own a Prelude, thats why I don't swap one. These cars weren't on any level designed to be RWD. It's impractical to do so. One last, third point, the same can be asked to you. I'll continue this privately if you wish, do not become defensive and start a flamewar. I once was a dick on the forum and that didn't end well.

Re: 240sx Issues

Arrogantly post about my V8? I'm glad you can follow my post history. Go to off topic and see how many members talk about their trucks, vans, BMWs, and other rides, not Honda or Prelude. Unlike other Honda websites, we like all cars and all modifications. I've owned 3rd generation Prelude 4WS, and a 4th generation S. I mention my V8 because Honda hasn't made anything as good as what I've driven in YEARS. So I had to settle, and STI were still 37k when I bought my car for half that.

Which brings me to another point. If you do not like a thread, don't post. Leave it. Bashing on other's people ideas, will not earn you any points or friends. If you can't positively contribute to the thread, don't post. The people that did answer before you been following Randall's 240 purchase way before you joined. And I actually searched for those answers, cause Randall has a Sh!tload of crap he has to tackle right now. But you wouldn't know that.

It's nice you have a Lear jet and decide to drive preludes, but stop crapping on others people's threads.
