K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

I've heard from multiple Civic drivers that k24/K20 swap is the way to go if you want power and torque fast. It's a lighter engine set up and produces more power faster than a JDM H22 would around 4800 rpm vs 8000 rpm for a H22. BUt from ppl who've swapped H22's into lude's I've heard the Kswap is costly and very hard to do in a lude, not worth all the trouble. Plus, they're sayin that you can get the same whp out of a H22 as a K24a2 with less work and less money. If you have any insight or have ACTUALLY done these swaps let me know whats up. I was planning to do this swap here in Febuary and now Im lost.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

all I know that yes K is more mod-friendly than H

truly K swapping would be difficult to do, but I guess you can do anything if you have enough money

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

Of course its easier to do JDM h22 swap into a prelude because it is the same H series, mounts and other things are the same. for the K im sure mounts and stuff are diff, ecu, etc. also the Prelude to me is the forgoten vehicle when it comes to mod friendly items / upgrades. there are upgrades, but only a select market. with the K series like Typet said yes it is to your advantage. its difficult because that engine is not made for that car. but I think it would be cool to see a K in the prelude, goodluck

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

one guy here swapped K into 96 Integra, there was LOTS of work, but there also was K swap kits for Integra to help him.

but with Prelude there isnt so you have to get custom parts? just guessing, sorry

but if youre going to do that get K20 Type R engine

try this forum too

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

I'm getting a k24a1 short block from a crv and a k20 rsx head. Hasport makes mounts and k series stuff but Im yet to find an actual kit. Ive got about a 4g budget. And Im pretty sure I wanna K swap it. It's newer technology and puts out more whp/torque in the longrun. I found headers, a K series Ecu, and some misc. things for a good price. This is my first swap and im investing a lot of my savings into this and wanna make sure Im doin it right.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

I was gonna do a k swap instead of my H22a....BUT i stopped countin cost at around 7k. I was gettin my motor from Hmotors tho. U need axels, trans, ecu, harness, etc. Its a COMPLETE swap. Ur budget is no where near enough to even try it. Id say ur gonna want atleast 10k to attempt. As for a Jswap I honestly dont think itll fit. My buddy swapped his 5g (first to do it) with a j32. Took him months of custom fab work. Cars a monster but took a LOT of work n money.

Turbo a h22. Turbo a h23. Turbo a f22. >k-anything.

As a famous moderator once said "no point in being first in anything of you're second across the finish line." 4k will just barely cover the turbo setup. Much better results.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

I was completely into this K-swap thing too because it is a newer engine but the only thing I can think of is an H22 is the heart of the lude. It didn't come in a civic or a teggy or anything, just LUDES (and accords but not in the US). Do the h22 swap saves you time and money.

If I had 10k, I would do Euro R head on h23 block fully built and boost this ****er.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

His k series lude would definitely make some ppl stop for a closer look so I understand his need to be different. Honestly, if that's what you want then go for it. But you will need a bigger budget and do it right. I think last months import tuner or hondatuning magazines had a full k swap buyers guide. Might give u an idea.

I say go for it

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

Wasn't there a guy on here that did the K swap into a 4th gen? Or was he on PP? It was the guy that painted his Prelude the pearlescent white like you see on 3000GT's, and painted his BBS RS's purple. I went through the Members Rides section briefly but didn't come across it.

Anyway, if you can find that build thread, it would answer every question you have about this.

EDIT: This guy!!

I just googled purple BBS RS...Find this guy's build thread!

K series is overrated. Especially considering their critical weakness in the lubrication of the cam journals.

My buddy did his kswap with less $ than im planning. just gotta look for deals in every aspect. I could do a Jswap but if im goin that far, might as well throw a LS1 motor in there and make it RWD lol...not likely but a nice thought. You guys are really starting to talk me outta this tho. H22's are the heart, but their heavy, a lot heavier than a K24a2 would be. I gotta friend out in Houston who does shows tellin me to do the H22 sleeve the block, after market internals, and buy a good turbo kit, run 12-25psi all day with zero problems for the same price as a quality kswap would run me. Then a good friend out by me who's gotta Kswapped Civic tellin me that I'd rape H22's all day with a kswap. HE's runnin 12's all motor N/A without a good tune!

That's a bunch of horse sh*t. My H22A1 has over 200k miles, and new Civics only pull about a fender on my Prelude. There's no rape there.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

That clip is accurate, only because the new civic is bulky, weighs about 500-700lbs more and the k24 doesnot have "the high lobe" cam. That doesn't mean it'll work in a Prelude, it means you can make a fun daily out of a tired 92-96.

Put that K24 in a Del Sol for a real fun treat. IMHO it's better to complete a simpler F or H engine build, than get frustrated and overwhelmed 85% on the way through finishing something like this.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

That k swapped civic didnt really pull that hard on that si. Its kinda sad unless the si has work done to it. If I was to ever attempt a k swap in a lude it wouldnt be with a k24. Go with a k20a type r and it will be worth it. Otherwise I would just say your wasting money that you could be building your h with.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

I've been looking around for parts and it's lookin like I'm still gonna do the Kswap. Rather than re-build an h22 for more whp. Thanks for all you guy's help. Imma start it sometime in February so look for the Kswap Prelude thread here in a month or two. Gotta let you guys know if your right or not. It's gonna be beastly when its done. One more question though. Is a 5 lug conversion worth the work as well?

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

My friends rsx type s a spec ran a 10.3 on out 1/8th mile track while my prelude woth a stock jdm h22a ran 10.1 with problems.. Hmmm... 8 grand or 1800...

Id still say go for it if you want the uniqueness and the upgraded engine.

Re: K24a2 vs H22 Swap: Worth the work?

This is gonna be a complete swap, so imma be spending money either way I go. Its gonna be around the same amount of cash to swap a H22 and boost it instead of just goin with a all motor k24a2. My car is automatic with an F series engine.
