Cleaning Fuel Tank

So my poor Lude was out of order for 6 months with a quarter tank of fuel in her. Now that I've got her running right (tears of joy), I'm a little worried about the fuel in the tank. Can anyone shed some light on how bad the condition of the fuel is and what I can do about it? I've had someone tell me I'm gonna need to take the fuel tank out and do a thorough cleaning to get the gunk and residue out. This would probably actually be a good idea anyways, since my car is 11 years old now and I do not want any dirt/rust/crap getting pumped through my engine.

Btw, happy new years everyone! Here's to another long year of Luding.

Re: Cleaning Fuel Tank

Not a bad idea.... but I can't help you...

I ran my lude out of gas this past june (fuel light doesn't currently work)... ever since then I have had a reduction in fuel economy by about 2 MPGS.... I replaced the fuel filter, and ran a bottle of Lucas tune-up in a bottle, but neither thing helped... all that gunk in the tank as "done gone and fouled something up"... maybe now I need a new pump? injectors? something... :(

Sorry to hear that man! It's too early to tell if any permanent damage has already been done to my mpg... I sure hope not. I go to and from Houston to Dallas pretty regularly.
