RPM's

Hi all, i have question about RPM's my engine is h23a2 non vtec, and with first gear i can reach only 25mph, and the RPM is being about 8000 on 25MPH, is it normal? Because i have seen other preludes, that on 8000RPM reaches ~40mph, so maybe me engine is dead, or what?

Re: RPM's

If you're reaching 8000 rpm, your engine is working fine. If you're stepping on the gas and the engine screams, but the car is sluggish, suspect a slipping clutch...time to replace it.

If I'm reading this right, the car is sluggish all the way up to redline, and only going 25 mph when it gets there? That really sounds like a slipping clutch. What's it like in other gears?

In first gear, he should hit 25 mph around 5000 rpm....should be about 35 mph at redline. And if it's not behaving in first, it's not right in other gears either...with a slipping clutch, it's not as noticable (yet) in the higher gears.

Re: RPM's

I thought clutch slip is more noticeable in higher gears. I get it a bit in first, but it's easy to catch. When I'm in fourth and fifth I have to get really sensitive.

Re: RPM's

Hmm...different issue. I'd expect it to run out of breath around 7000 rpm, since the redline for an H23A is actually lower (I expect your tach's just reading a little high). But in first, you should still be going faster. Of course, maybe your speedo's low. If there's no problem getting up to redline, then I think you're in good shape.
