air filter questions

i have a 97 lude and i really like all the flashy intakes i see on everyones ludes and have been thinking about on myself to spruce up the engine compartment but i haven't the slightest clue as to which to go with, and if i get a intake, are there other things that should be upgraded to maintain/increase performance?

Does it rain a lot were you live? If so I wouldn't go with a cold air intake, I would use a short ram like the aem v2 or injen (the 2 most used) or pick up some thing baller like a top fuel intake, like the one in this link http://www.raretrick.com/index.asp?C...541&Search=Yes

well im Illinois, theres a rainy season but if it gets really bad i pull 'er in the garage. i was also thinking of putting like a highflow cone onto the stock thing thats already inthere, depends how stupid its gonna look and if i can cheap my way out of a nice intake for now, i cant stand the black intake box any more >.<

I found a High Flow Air filet that would fit on the stock arm for a cheaper price then the AEM, theres alot more important things to worry about on the car, but i noticed under the box for the filet is like a duct, do i need to close tht or will i lay the new cone ontop of the duct and it will still get air from there?

(sorry for the double post, i really need help cause im going to get parts tomorrow)

wite2nr98 is on a distinguished road
I would get an AEM intake. I've seen new CAI for 135 shipped and SRI for about the same. A lot of people buy a cheap intake from ebay and then put a KN filter on it. I had a coworker who went to a muffler shop and had them bend him a piece of pipe and then he stuck a filter on that. Cost him like 30.
