Lexan Sunroof?

So it seems like my sunroof motor is going out and I figured that the sunroof would have to come out to replace it and I hate the purple oem tint. Are there any lexan options for sunroof glass, I figured I'd try and lose some weight. Does lexan have the same amount of sound insulation as regular glass? I'm in Denver btw.

Re: Lexan Sunroof?

Purple? Was it tinted before?

What gen prelude do you drive? i know 5th and 4th gens have a slight curve on their sunroofs - so getting lexan to fit perfectly would be a bit difficult.

Lexan would let a little more sound in than glass would. But it's a tradeoff with nearly anything you do to shave weight.

Re: Lexan Sunroof?

It's not a purple purple but faded to a purple hue. I have a 5th gen and I believe it came tinted, I'm the second owner.

Any idea how much the oem glass weighs and how much less the lexan would be, are there other options?

Fail, lol. 4th Gens have metal sunroofs, so I'm betting they didn't tint the metal.

I had to bust your balls

To the OP, anything can work if you have the money, time, and determination.

Re: Lexan Sunroof?

How much should I expect to pay for a lexan moon roof? Are there any other alternatives? What should the weight difference be?

But who's to say he doesn't have a 3rd gen or older ?

The fail is on you my friend, I never said 4th gens have a glass sunroof - just that it's curved like 5th's ;)

I'm unsure of 1st 2nd and 3rd gens. So I was going by what i'm positive of

OP: You would be saving maybe 10lbs going from glass to lexan... I don't know an exact number off hand but that's a rough estimate.

Re: Lexan Sunroof?

the motor and assembly is 24lbs

Re: Lexan Sunroof?

Geez, 18lbs is a lot. So lexan weighs about 50% less than glass? THe weight for the motor and assembly is ridiculously heavy too. Any lighter motor designs out there?

Re: Lexan Sunroof?

Not that i'm aware of.

You can either weld sheet metal on the roof and repaint it all - or get a cf roof plug and glue it in place. Then remove the motor etc.
