Speed sensor caught on fire!!

The other day my VSS went out, so I figured I'd replace it in a few days. Left the car sitting in the yard for a few days, went to start it and drive to autozone to buy another sensor. I drive around town, buy the part, drive up in my driveway and notice a **** ton of smoke coming from my hood, so I figure oh crap my car is on fire

Roll it into the street, turn it off, and the smoke stops. Turn the car back on, and it starts smoking again. After investigating the source of the smoke, the VSS was actually starting to flame up when the key is turned on. I go to replace the VSS, and now the stupid connector is melted to the VSS, along with a few inches of wiring.

Anyone have any ideas of how I can get only the VSS connector without having to purchase an entire engine harness? Thanks guys.

Keith

Wow I've never heard of that, ever! Sounds like you might've had a short in that circuit somehow.

The VSS is already in a PITA location to get to normally, not to mention if you hafta solder in new wires. That's not gonna be an easy job
