New to tuning. Advice please!

Hello everyone! I recently purchased my new jdm h22 92 SI Lude. I have big plans for this car which end up with around 320-380 whp with a 57 trim turbo, but I digress. My next step I have decided is to get my new ecu/engine management system installed and running. MY car will most likely be a project that will take some time so I have to be able to tune it every step of the way and keep it healthy. I know my p13 won't cut it for any realistic form of tuning, so I have decided to get a chipped p28 from Phearable.net - Electronic Fuel Injection Tuning Solutions - Hondata, Neptune, Crome, Uberdata, Ectune, AEM, Honda Tuning, Widebands, Fuel Pumps, Intercoolers, Turbos, LS/VTEC, ECU Chipping, Chipped Ecus, P28.

Now here's the deal, I really have no clue what I need to do to interface with the ecu and tune it. Do I have to pay for some other item to plug into the ecu to tune it? Or can I plug directly in to the chipped p28? Do I have to pay for the software to tune it? I was considering a Hondata s200. I am very new to this whole tuning thing and if anyone can break it down idiot style for me I would greatly appreciate it.

So what do i need to tune it? just a laptop to plug it in? can it do datalogging for future tweaking? what kind of additional sensors do i need to install in my car to make it work?

Crome is a free tuning software. It's the basics, but it works. You need the chipped ecu, of course. You need a datalogging usb cable and a 4 pin header soldered into your ecu.

Here's Crome:

Here's the cable:

Xenocron Tuning: Xeno USB Datalogging Kit #[USB-kit]

Also, refer to these tech areas for future information:

Xenocron Tuning: Fuel Management and DIY Tuning Resource Center for Honda and Acura Performance - Hondata, eCtune, Neptune, Crome, TurboEdit, Uberdata

Phearable.net - Electronic Fuel Injection Tuning Solutions - Hondata, Neptune, Crome, Uberdata, Ectune, AEM, Honda Tuning, Widebands, Fuel Pumps, Intercoolers, Turbos, LS/VTEC, ECU Chipping, Chipped Ecus, P28

Hope that helps.

Re: New to tuning. Advice please!

You could buy a used s200.. Ask around at your local import shop to see if anyone is trying to sell theirs.. The guys at the shop should be able to source you one pretty easily..

Never used Neptune before but if 98vtec says it's good.. Then it's good

You'll need a wide band 02 sensor

You wanting to tune it yourself? You wanting to dyno tune or street tune? Or both?

Re: New to tuning. Advice please!

So I have also been asking around to my friends and they say Neptune is the way to go. Is it a standalone system or does it piggyback a p28 like s200 does? You said you sell it, how much would it run about for all the parts to get it up and running? I wouldn't mind going through you if it reasonable (support the forums ;))

Re: New to tuning. Advice please!

To be completely honest I wasn't looking to spend more than 500 on the highest end of my engine management side for right now. I do plan on going to you for the neptune unit itself, however do thee seem like decent options for my wideband/ecu?
