So I want to tune my ECU... >_>

Hey guys, so I got my Phearable ECU about a year ago and I'm still running the base map tune. It's not really a big deal though because I'm not heavily modded. I've been doing some very detailed research and it seems like tuning my own ECU isn't out of the question anymore. I've had some experience playing with Crome (a few basic tuning software) and my only problem was connecting my ECU to my laptop. I think I may have found the answer to that problem, but I wanted some assurance.

According to Xenocron, the only thing I need to connect my laptop to my ECU for tuning is this:

Xenocron Tuning: Xeno USB Datalogging Kit #[USB-kit]

My only concern is that I wouldn't know where to solder in the header, but I'm sure there are instructions somewhere.

So, I pose the question: Is this all anyone really needs to start tuning their own stuff?

i would suggest getting a wideband o2 sensor, to keep track of your a/f ratio while tuning. data loggin would be helpful as well.... the more data you have, the better tune you can achieve and it will be more simple along the way as well.

edit: should've looked at the link before i posted!! it looks good to me, but i do still recomend a wideband o2 sensor. what program are you looking to tune on?

I planned on getting a wideband as well. You actually need a datalogging cable to connect your computer to your ecu. I saw mention on a buffer called the Ostrich 2.0 by moates that I thought I may need. I'm going to use Crome because it's free, lol.

i would suggest a program that could support datalogging. trust me. it will be worth it in the long run.

Well I still have a very long way to go before I can tune proficiently. My friend and I dream of having a shop one day and it's something I'll need eventually. Might as well start now!

The only suggestion I can provide as far as tuning: GET A 2ND ECU!

You can have Honda update it to run by today's standards, and you will have a common baseline as a fallback in case you remap and damage the EPROM.

This is coming from years of overclocking computers. Back up Bios chip FTW! The basic reflash handles everything Air/fuel related minus Cams/timing, forced induction and fuel delivery (bigger injectors). As a FYI, Honda run rich from the factory so, I/H/E, porting, polishing, blueprinting, and ignition upgrades(wires/plugs/rotor/cap/coil are covered.
