Car cranks but wont turn over?!

Hi,

My 91 jdm prelude (equal to the 92 domestic prelude) cranks but wont start. I checked the relays and they all click on. I checked the fuel pressure from the fuel filter. What else should I check before giving up and towing it to a shop? Btw the car was just serviced less that 1k ago

Re: Car cranks but wont turn over?!

I called minute muffler and they said I probably broke my timing belt. would that make sense? I dont think the timing belt has ever been changed and there is 109k on the engine

Why the hell is there oil in your distributor? First things first, you probably need to replace the cam seal that is letting oil leak into your distributor, and THEN get a new distributor and see if that helps. Go from there.

And yes, you should replace the timing belt or you're gonna be right back in the same boat again soon.

No, it is not normal for there to be oil IN the distributor. Where the distributor key/shaft interlocks with the camshaft, yes, there will be some oil there, but there is an o-ring on the distributor key/shaft to prevent oil from actually getting inside the distributor.

Re: Car cranks but wont turn over?!

I'm going to hit up the junk yard and look for a decent distributor and if thats the problem then ill end up buying a brand new one, I just don't want to waste so much money on a new part and not have that being the problem. and is the sensor right underneath the distributor the o2 sensor? because its covered in carbon. would my car not start because of that either?

p.s. I tried turning on my car today, and the engine sounded different when it tried turning over. It was like it almost started but gave up, and then almost started and gave up again kinda thing.
