Can't check oil level?

I hadn't checked or filled my oil for about a month or two and when I went to check it, the oil dip stick has oil splattered over it, its not readable. I even tried letting it sit for couple hours to overnight, still unreadable. But If I add more oil, its still unreadable but higher. I know i dont have too much oil because I have a small leak in oil pan and I usually have to add oil every 2-4 weeks.

Re: Can't check oil level?

Drain the oil pan.
WD-40 the dipstick, wipe clean.
Refill oil to recommended capacity
Add the oil (new or old) 1qt at a time, checking level after each quart, until filled.

Drive the car normally for 20 minutes, then shut it off to recheck the dipstick. If it has oil spatter again, you're probably going to need to drop the pan to see what's going on.

Why have you not repaired the leak? At 4.00/qt you proably could had a shop swap the gasket or weld a patch or got a pan in a junkyard. Seriously.

Oil pan gasket is qa quick fix! If your running some good oil (Mobile) I would recommend doing it. I have the order for tightening it up if you would like it. :P I`m kinda in need of doing this too haha... I`m not lazy it`s just 110 outside...

Re: Can't check oil level?

Crazy! Honda actually went band-aid on a part (kerrraazzzy). Figured gasket glue were just that. Also have a decent scrapper to remove the old ultra flange for a sealed fit. Careful not to marr the pan or block.

Yes the job is not a summer job, you need to be done by 10am! It's brutal out there! Hope this is the origin f the leak.

Re: Can't check oil level?

yeah I always rather at least try it myself before bringing to shop. but damn it's hot out and its a messy job. I bought a actual gasket from AAP, not sure if it will work.
