vtec won't engage

well yesterday I decided that I was going to try to hit vtec, and when the car came to about 5500 rpms there was no vtec. the car just kind of backfired and bogged down. my oil level is fine so what do you guys think the issue is? no CEL is being thrown either.

Re: vtec won't engage

was the car warmed up? have you cleaned your solenoid filter lately/ever? have you recently bottomed out and possibly dented your oil pan? start there...

Was the car cold when you did it or was it warm for the vtec to engage?

Re: vtec won't engage

alright, the oil pan could be the issue though because I am pretty low and do scrape sometimes. If thats not it I'll have to check the solenoid

Re: vtec won't engage

one guy here broke the engine because he didnt have enough oil in....and his vtec didnt work either at that time (not enough oil - not enough oil pressure - no vtec)
