GOOD ADVICE FOR OIL BURNERS EVERYWHERE

I have owned a 94 Lincoln thats a qt/350m oil burner since 1997.
The oil burring problem was just a nuisance until the muck started jamming the egr valve open and causing my engine to sputter. I then really had no choice but to clean out the egr passages. Some time ago, I noticed that the water temperature gage, that under normal conditions, used to read at about the half way point within the normal range had over time dropped to the lower end of the normal range.I removed the thermostat and won't you know ,it was broke.

I replaced the thermostat which resulted in two improvements.
Although the engine still burnt oil, I guess more of the muck is being burnt during the combustion process so I stopped having to clean my egr and egr passages even though the check engine lite still comes on. My car is equipped with a computer that measures instantaneous and average fuel economy to a fairly high degree of accuracy. I guess its no surprise to know that engine temperature is critical to the efficient operation of the engine and as a result fuel economy improved. Because replacing a thermostat on a Prelude is so cheap and easy to do, I would recommend anyone with 10+ year old car to just go ahead and do it because at the very least the devices calibration after so many opening and closing cycles has probably been compromised.

For coal burners just induce the gas chamber till it stops aspirating! Easy as that.

Bad time to mention you still have a CEL or still burning muck?

At the Expense of getting Robert worked up, If you still have your 94 Lincoln, Check the valve seals and pistons rings, they have a tendency to harden over time and let oil through the cylinders, making your car dump more fuel and burn oil.

Icon1 HOW A PHONY ENGINE ENHANCEMENT CAN CAN MUCK UP YOUR OIL BURNERS THROTTLE BODY

I think this advise would apply to the owners of Honda engines also.

"""""Comments by Thomas Moxey

This is one area where the Nissan engineers fumbled the ball. The throttle body and intake manifold "collector" accumulates thick black oil residue over time due to the engine gas recirculation scheme employed on the SR20DE. To really do the job right you must completely remove the throttle body. This is a task as the cooling system is plumbed into the bottle of the unit and is difficult to disconnect and reconnect. Coolant will freely flow from the hoses upon removal and drain your system quite quickly. It's there to keep the temp high at the throttle plate in order to 'melt ' that sludge, """"""DO NOT BYPASS THIS CIRCUIT""""""". I spotted an article somewhere on the web where the author detailed the bypass procedure. If you do, be prepared to repeat this cleaning process quarterly!.. Also, there's a vacuum line attached to the bottom of the unit. Don't forget the throttle position sensor connector. """"
