'99 lude exhaust problem

I have a 99 lude and yesterday i went down to an exhaust shop and had a custom built exhaust installed. he replaced the catalytic converter with a 15" glasspack, upgraded piping to 2.25" and put on a straight magnaflow muffler. I lost a considerable amount of power and now it's just really loud and slow. Im short on cash now so what would be the cheapest way to fix this? I'd rather help get more air entering my engine to try and match the air leaving it, i have a secret weapon R intake, how do i get more air in without turboing/supercharging it? And also how do i restrict the exhaust a bit more so the air leaving and entering is more matched?

Should I try and find another catalytic converter and push the glasspack down a little and put the cat back on and run both? Or should i take the glasspack out completely? Also what about my resonator, should i have one put in again? And maybe put in a more restricted muffler?
just some ideas...

thanks

Re: '99 lude exhaust problem

so if i put the cat back on would that help give me some back pressure and regain my power? I was also looking at a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler, i heard it was the quietest muffler out there

Re: '99 lude exhaust problem

yea that should. I hear about glass packs, personally, when talking about trucks and SUVs...so Im guessing thats where a bit of your power loss lies. Magnaflow is a good brand of exhaust system, so maybe you could look into saving up a little bit and re-doing the system. If that looks like something you might want to do, you could look around this forum and see what other guys exhaust set ups are. Specifically, check the member's ride threads. EBPludesh, akapreludesh, 1BadBB6, to name a few. Concerning the shop, did you know much about them going into purchase? Did he tell you he was going to do all that, or did you just go in there, ask for a custom exhaust rebuild, and then he just went to work? and howmuch exactly did this guy charge?

Re: '99 lude exhaust problem

Thank you.
As for knowing much about it, unfortunately no, i read on a thread somewhere about having a 20" glass pack, 2.25" pipes and a greddy muffler on a 5th gen and how much he loved it so i asked for the same thing, only he talked me into replacing the cat with the glass pack and he put on a lower profile muffler so it wouldnt draw as much attention. I also asked him for the quietest exhaust system he could make but still give me power. I ended up paying 380 for a loud exhaust and less power than my stock exhaust. =/ I know i screwed up on this, shoulda done more research, but now im just wondering how to fix it considering i only have 200 bucks left.

Re: '99 lude exhaust problem

Yea...when you read it on a thread....it doesn't necessarily mean its a good idea. As Im sure you know by know. But, hmm....what to do. First of all, learn from this mistake and make sure and do all your research before doing something or especially getting something done to your car(research extra there, with regards to reviews on the kind of people at the shop and the quality of their work, not to mention make sure they tell you exactly what they're doing, and why). Why did the guy take the original exhaust apart?? thats dumb. The guys I got mine done with asked me if I wanted to take it home and I said yea. But I was satisfied with mine. I have a Flowmaster, so if you wanna check out ebay or somewhere on here for those, they're great. So, what I guess I would do, is do your research first. Get many opinions before you do something regarding your exhaust, and check out the numerous exhaust threads here on PZ. If the option you ultimately want is slightly outside your current budget, starting saving by setting a little aside to add to that $200. What other mods do you currently have done to it?

Re: '99 lude exhaust problem

Yeah, i fully understand all that now...
I have a secret weapon-r air intake, CF hood, 18" low profile rims and just a bunch of little cosmetic things here and there.
As for a quick fix to my exhaust, should i go back and have him put in the resonator and catalytic converter? Cause i dont think i can stand driving around with it the way it is for now.

Re: '99 lude exhaust problem

If the guy will do it for free, then jump on it. If not, do you have access to a lift and or 4 jack stands? Cause if you do, then I'd do it yourself. If you don't know how to do it, and his price isn't outrageous, which could be possible from what you tell us about this guy, then let him do it and watch how he does it so you know when you actually get the money for a better exhaust set up, so you don't have to bring back to that dude again. Have you started a introduction thread or member's ride thread, btw? (I don't think you have to have a minimum amount of post for a member's ride thread, anyway) The introductory thread is a good place to do exactly what you think....introduce yourself, your lude, and some pics of the lude, and where you're from. Member's ride thread is a good way for you to show us(and for us to keep track of) the progress on your lude. Current and future engine, suspension, interior, exterior, and wheel&tire mods. but check the rules before you do. Back on topic, I can understand not being able to stand it.....some exhaust set ups(seems like yours is one) are too loud for one to even think while one is in a certain radius of the car. :P
