Vtec sensor

I have spent hours searching and am not getting the answers I am looking for. I have a 93 prelude 2.2Vtec. I know there is a sensor on the thermostat housing at the back of the engine. (lower rad hose) What is this for? I unhooked it and put in my own sensor for a temp gauge. Would that one sensor effect the vtec from kicking in? To me it doesn't feel like its working(Vtec) And the sensor on the top rad hose at the engine is for the fan switch...right? This is a stock car so most wiring has been removed. I want to try and also hook up the Rad fans back up to the fan sensor. I currently am just running them on a toggle switch. but the temp jumps to much and won't stay constant. Can I just tap into the wires on the sensor switch or does it have to go thru the ecu first. I hope this all makes sence.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Vtec sensor

Pictures might help man... But I know vtec senses the temp of the motor, the oil pressure, and all that jazz so it kicks in it might need to know the coolant temp also. And you should know if vtec is kicking in.

Re: Vtec sensor

Umm you need pictures. Like I said I am wondering what the sensors or switches do that are on the thermostat housing(lower rad hose) and the housing for the upper rad hose. I know the other two on the block are ecu and gauge. Service manual doesn't tell you what they are for. I am assuming one is for a rad fan switch but not sure which one.
