I just bought a 1998 prelude from my buddy the car has a obd1 jdm h22 swap with a lsd tranny. It also has I/H/E and a AEM fuel rail and fuel regulator. When he first had the swap done it ran fine but then all of a sudden it started acting up and because he had another car he kinda just let it sit . So i bought it with the thought that nothing too serious was wrong with it. Here is the problem the car has been sitting for a long time so i know the gas has got to be bad but what its doing is it starts up and idles kinda rough it will drive but as soon as you hit vtec on get on it i will shut off. There is no check engine light that I see but my buddy said one did come on for him and the error he said it had was it was running lean. I just need to know what directions to head in to fix it or what to tell a mechanic to look at. All help would be much appreciated cause i wanna get this baby on the road asap.

Does it have a rev limiter or any kind of aftermarket ECU?
Besides there, I'd check VTEC solenoid (passenger side behind the head), cams, and swap the fluids and just drain everything.

check the fuel filter and thr filters on the injectors. mine has always been rich @ wot.
