Icon5 Bought a new toy and need help.

So i bought on of the cleanest CRX's i've seen in a while last week. Well it ran great with no problems. the other day i was on my way home and it sounded like it back fired and it just died. My first though was it jumped time. so after doing my research for a day i went outside and checked my timing marks and they are fine. My next idea is the distributer but i dont know for sure. I dont have the $150 to buy a distributer and that not be it. how can i diagnose it?I'm starting my research again, but if you can help me it will be greatly appreciated. i'll take the cap off and take a pic for yall. It is a 1988 CRX with a DOHC ZC swap. Thanks again.
