Icon5 Any1 accidently shift into 2nd from 3rd ... *3rd not 4th*?

My friend accidentally did it tonight in my BB1.
I'm wondering if anyone else has done this?

I am hearing a clicking noise as I am winding out a gear.
I'm hoping it is nothing serious.

Yeah.
I guess it was over revved way to much.

The motor locked up on me today. Just as I thought, the sound seemed like a spun bearing, and I am almost sure it's a seized up bearing or something.

Really sux =(
I'm not sure what to do at this point.

yea lol.. accidentally going to 2nd from forth doesnt really seem right.. maybe if he was in 3rd trying to go into 4th and accidentally went in to 2nd, thats more likely. unless he was intentionaly downshifting to 2nd from 4th, being no accident. and doesnt know your car or how to drive at all and thought however fast he was going wouldve been b4 redline in 2nd.

Sorry guys, lol

Yes, he was trying to shift from 3rd to 4th, and accidently shifted into 2nd instead. Sorry for that miscommunication. I was pretty exhausted last night when I made the thread. =P

But yeah, he screwed up like a very good running motor. =(

I feel your pain (kind of). Last night I shifted from 3rd into 2nd... and when I did, I was probably at about 7K in third. I didn't engage the clutch all the way in 2nd, I disengaged it as soon as I realized what the hell I had just done, (maybe engaged about half way before I disengaged it) but the damage was done. Today my check engine light popped on, and upon running the diagnostics I found out my #1 cylinder is misfiring. I'm hoping to god that it is just valves, because I'd much rather replace the valves than the pistons and/or rings. I'm also hoping that I don't fudge it up any worse than it already is by driving it to and from work.

Yeah man .. this was my daily driver for work, school, errands, weekends, etc.
My friend did the same exact thing as you pretty much.

He was about at or a little over 7,000 RPM's in 3rd and shifted into 2nd (thinking it was 4th, on accident). He engaged the clutch right away and it was a rough ride inside the car. We pretty much jerked forward from the car being down shifted to such a low gear.

I barely remember it, it happened so fast.
I just remember saying "awwwww you fuker", i'm almost sure that's what I said. lol

Anyway, right after it happened, the car shut off, my friend tried turning it back on a few times (while rolling) and it would just turn off. We pulled over and tried turning it back on with some throtle. This time it stayed on and we took off and stopped somewhere else. I checked the oil and it was only 1qt low in oil, which is not a whole lot, it wasn't below the low mark on the oil dip stick, it was close though. But to be over revved the way it did, it was probably enough to ruin the engine. I topped off the oil right after. So I let another friend drive it (I know I know, but this time it was a really good friend of mine and it used to actually be his car before it came into my hands) and he babied it, winded out a gear or two a few times and the car felt OK. I noticed a very sligh noise from the engine only once though.

So I drive her back home and get on it a few times in different gears to make sure it's not my tranny. Well, as soon as it would go over 2,500 RPM's I could hear that slight noise I heard before. Right there, I knew damage was done to the motor and that most likely it was not going to last me much longer. I slept on it and woke up in the morning, revved the motor again rev after rev and the sound was still thier. I was hoping I could just dream it off, but I had to wake up to reality.

I drove it to my dads and had him hear it. I kept shifting at like 2K on the way, if you rode in the car you would never hear the noise and would never think anything was wrong with the motor untill I start to rev higher. My dad thought maybe it was from the head and suggested I got the head redone and check the valves. Then we both agreed on the sound coming from the bottom end. To me, it personally sounded like a spun bearing. I've seen symptoms and have heard what spun bearings sound like, so I can almost gauantee it.

On the way back home, merging onto the highway (i've been babying it since the night before) the engine starts to shut off on me when I disengage the clutch. I tried turning it back on about 2 more times before it locked up on me and I had to pull over. That right thier was the end of my H22 BB1 Prelude.

The only thing I find odd is that, the sound never got louder. Also, I DID feel power loss the next day and VTEC was not kicking in as hard.

Now it's sitting at a dads friends house untill I can do something about it.

Yes, H22 for me. My BB1 chassis has about 220K miles on it. But the motor was supposadly swapped for a lower mileage one in the past, if that were true, the motor still has no more than 100K miles on it, about 90K ish. I believe it too, the motor itself looked clean and ran pretty good, def didn't feel like a 200K mile H22.

I've heard they usually don't last that long. Mines burned some oil but thats about it. I believe it was really swapped because the engine bay was missing tedeous stuff, and the A/C was removed. Plus, I think it was boosted at some point by prev. owners.

Yup yup, or another low mileage motor. Who knows, maybe a piston ring went bad and seized up the motor.

The car used to burn oil and smoke blue when I would get on it. I really wanna stay N/A though.
When it comes to Hondas, I prefer N/A over boost.
