Need Help! Big mistake cleaning EGR ports!

So...
My CEL has been on for a while. I spoke with a couple mechanics and they said it had to do w/ the EGR.
After gleaning this site's helpful threads on the issue, and a few youtube videos, I took it upon myself to go ahead and start drilling away at the EGR ports.
Anyway, I got to the third port and started threading it w/ this overpriced piece of crap thread tap. At the last turn, the bit snapped off inside of the port!
That's where I am now. I had to walk away from working at it b/c I had been cursing out loud and I didn't want the neighbors to complain lol.

Has this ever happened to anybody? Does neone have some tips for me?
The plugs are brass so its kinda soft. But yea, the bit sits pretty flush with the rest of the plug and its proving to be a bastard to get out.

Please help me out. I love my car and right now it is out of commission!

Thanks,

D

I'd say try and drill out the tap, buy another tap, and retap the redrilled hole… If that makes sense?

Wrong section BTW.

EXACT same thing happened to me. Grind it out with a demrel, or try to tap it again, or just leave it in, and say **** it. or force the plug into the manifold and take it off the engine, and then clean <--- this is ur last resort, GOODLUCK

I would try to drill the broken tap out, but if not leave it in if you could til you have more time to take off the intake instead of leaning over the car the whole time.

Re: Need Help! Big mistake cleaning EGR ports!

Thanks for the response fellas.
So I plan to drill around the bit and use some pincers to turn the ****er counterclockwise.

However, now I'm a little worried about shavings. I have been using a vacuum since I started for the shavings, but I didn't think of taping up the holes until after number three. I kept the injectors in.. but... dunno, how worried should I be? Should I worry enough taht it would be smarter for me to take off the entire manifold?
I heard that was a bitch to do.

If I clean out the ports extremely well and use a vac and everything should it be alright?

ps. Whoops about section.. what section is this in lol

Don't try to drill it. A tap is too hard unless you are using a carbide bit. They make a special tap removal tool if you can find it. Snap on has them. Maybe a cheap one at harbor freight not sure. Sometimes you can bust them and take them out in pieces then retap the holes. Drilling won't work just dull your bit.

That was an awesome post that guy had. I'm about to try this. I JUST had my fuel rail off too to replace bigger injectors and didn't even know those ports where there!!!!!!!
