97 Lude needs ignition switch replacement

Greetings all,

This is my 1st post, if I posted in the wrong column, my apologies are on the way.

I have a 1997 5-speed manual trans Prelude. I have been noticing, not once or twice, but at least a dozen of times, that the engine was cut off while driving and finally I started getting worried as the last time it happened, there were a few trucks going 75mph on high way 90 near Chicago behind my Lude. So I decided to park the car for the entire winter. Now that spring is here and I decided to take her out for a cool spin, but... history just repeated itself... the engine was cut off again. Frustrated enough I decided to ask my uncle Google and that's how I ended up landing over here... What a great website this is.

I did take the car in for professionally mechanical advise, but was charged up front for $80... said it was for diagnostic work and told me to bring the car in when the part arrives in a few days and to pay $350 more... blah blah blah

I looked up on Ebay for ignition switch and founds some cheap ones. Would this one fit/work for my 97 lude?

Thanks inadvance for all your replies

Re: 97 Lude needs ignition switch replacement

beware on the 97 especially, u cant just change the ignition. theres a lot more to it. could run you some large dollars. if you are not doing the work yourself, could be over 1000 easy.

call honda, give them your VIN and see if there are any recalls that havent been done. Theres an ignition switch recall for some prelude. Now go introduce yourself in the new members area. good luck.
