Balance of 4 cylinders

I've been trying to figure out if a V4 would be better balanced than an inline 4, obviously a Flat-4 is perfectly balanced, 720/4=180. Would a 90 degree V4 be better balanced than an I4? I've found very little on this subject, I read that a 60 degree V4 is less balanced than an I4, as is anything angled V design below that. (Think VR6 engine design)

Just curious. It would be nice to have a smoother, more compact motor, helping reduce vehicle weight, increase handling and WHP etc.

Re: Balance of 4 cylinders

From what I can gather a 90 degree V4 would be better balanced than an I4. Seems like it would be great for RWD/AWD applications, particularly in the luxury segment.

Re: Balance of 4 cylinders

Agreed. Flat fours are a pain to work on though and companies outside Subaru and Porsche would have to spend a ton of R&D money to make one.
