alternator bearing replacement

okay so i've searched the net and PZ to diagnose my whining noise on my lude. what concluded it was Prelude13's thread: Bad Alternator

so my question is, has anyone replaced the bearing(s) in their alternator themselves?
i don't feel like dropping 150 bucks right now for a new one, and both bearings cost about 20 bucks each. - if i need both.

another question if anyone knows: do the alternator bearings need to be pressed in?

Re: alternator bearing replacement

Just replace the alternator. If you havent taken one apart before there are magnets/brushes, armatures, and other small pieces in there. For the cost of the bearings, and associated time it is easier to just replace it(usually with a warranty). Otherwise look in your yellow pages, there are usually places that specialize in rebuilding alternators/starters in most places. Last one I got rebuilt was under $60.
