need advice Rebuilding Motor

OK so my 01 Prelude has a crazy knocking sound runs great but i think i am getting some kind of rod knock.... anyways i am 2nd year apprentice mechanic and im ready to rebuild. So i really need some advice on parts and ideas for the build i am thinking 2000 to 2500 is my budget. Some ideas i have so far is i would like to get type s pistons with eagle rods not sure the best place to go to buy them but if u know please let me know. i would also like to upgrade the head as much a possible in budget. Also if anyone knows roughly what a machine shop has charge for the bottom end and what they charged if i need to do my valve seats. Would like to know what people think about the whole eBay situation when it comes to gasket kits, piston kits, and cams.....

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

best bet with that money would be to find a (closed deck) jdm h22a block, assembled or bare, trash the block you have and start from scratch. if its a rod knock you have issues and will probly waste atleast 1k of your money at a machine shop

We've got a budget, but we need goals. You looking to turn 9000 RPM all motor, or do you want to go turbo? Or is it more of a stock plus rebuild?

Re: need advice Rebuilding Motor

If you think its rod knock or piston slap, kill the cylinders one at a time to see which one it is, if any.

Re: need advice Rebuilding Motor

OK well i want to make an N/A motor for now but not sure if i want to go turbo later. So i should have started with this on my thread originally but here is my old thread that is now lost for some reason>>>>>

OK well i think i have found rod knock since the gasket where the oil cooler is gave out and dumped all the oil out on the highway. So i have 180 on the car and I want to rebuild. Currently I have AEM cold air intake DC header with skunk2 cat back exhaust, MSD cap rotor wires and coil, also a stupid venom chip which i will be getting rid of after build. I have a Vcon controller which i havent installed yet. Anyway my car burns quite a bit of oil so once again im rebuilding. Here is a list of parts so far i am looking to buy.
-Brian Crowler Cams
Stage 2 Turbo Cams or
Stage 2 All Motor Cams or
Stage 3 All Motor Cams
-Brian Crowler Valve Springs Retainers
-Brian Crowler valves
-Nippon type s pistons
-Eagle forged rods
-NPR rings
-King performance rod bearings
-Supertech bronze valve guides

So thats it so far i need a good suggestion on a gasket set where and how much it is. Also does anyone know what the machine shop is goin to charge me for valve guides and to clean up head and block. Let me know what you think and any insight you might have on this build Thank you
