Alarm suggestons????

ok so my neighborhood is quiet but my town isn't. Owning a modded prelude out here isn't exactly the easiest thing and sometimes nerve wracking when its parked out of view. I have heard horror stories about B-series engines getting pulled in less than 15 minutes not sure if its true or not but still i have nice things and i want to keep them that way!!!
so that said i am on a limited budget and would like an alarm system for the car some thing quality yet affordable (notice i didn't say cheap!) and preferably with keyless entry. I'll more than likely be installing my self. I have experience with putting GPS tracking devices and I.C.E in cars so I guess i could say iv'e got medium knowledge of how to wire it so I would like something that i don't need a bachelors in electronic science to install. If you have any suggestions of brands and models and experience with I would greatly appreciate it. the budget is about 150 bucks or so.

Re: Alarm suggestons????

I have a Computech alarm installed. Previous owner did it himself, has a very VERY good knock sensor - sound of a snow blower or loud lawn mower will set it off. Keyless entry, remote start, remote trunk pop option, and I can turn the knock sensor off if need be.

If you're concerned about your engine - I would suggest in a hood lock (if they make any that could possibly fit a 'lude) they were used on older muscle cars alot to keep the latch from being released.

Ditto, the Viper stuff is good. They also make it very easy to upgrade and add additional components later if needed.

Re: Alarm suggestons????

I have been running my Clifford Matrix for 6 years. I have never had a problem with it and I use mine to pop my doors because of the shaved handles. If I am not mistaken Clifford is made by DEI also. Prior to the Clifford I had a Viper that tried to burn my car down to the ground. I woke up one morning and my car was filled with smoke. Turns out the smoke was pouring directly out of the alarm. I had no way to get into my car because the alarm was toast and wouldn't let me hit the door popper solenoid. I had to break into my car with a coat hanger while I watched the smoke get thicker. The viper was around 8 years old when it gave up the ghost.

I would highly suggest NOT giving that vendor any money that I wouldn't want something in return for. The reason I say this is that at dealer cost the remote alone is more than that. If it sounds too good to be true... it probably is...

Here's my hang up on security systems. EVERY career thief knows DEI's wiring colors and can disable your alarm in seconds.

Most people don't hop in to cars and steal them anymore. If they want your car the pull up with a rollback or a tow device on a dually pick up and 20 seconds later your car is gone.

An alarms quality is not measured by how poorly the shock sensor was set up. A snow blower or lawn mower falsing the alarm is senseless. It was improperly installed.

I am a firm believer in not having a false sense of security system. So you leave a pair of Oakleys, ipod, couple twenties in your car. Punk kid sees it. Bang! Rock through the window, stuff is gone, alarm's going off, you don't hear it because you're inside, anyone around doesn't pay any attention because alarms go off all the time by accident and the kid walks away like nothing happened. You're left with the same result but instead of having $200 for a new pair of shades you spent it on a security system.

The practical purpose for a security system is if you have expensive things that are difficult to steal and nothing else. For any one to nab the few thousand bucks in gear I have in my car they are going to need a prior plan and a MINIMUM of 5 minutes to get anything worth while. That is a long time and a lot of bustle for either no one around to notice or me not to find out.

I'm not totally bashing...well kinda, yeah... security systems. Just want people to realize they aren't magic deterrents. One of the most effective ways to avoid theft from idiot kids is a flashing led in the top of the dash. Its still not going to keep people out but its cheap and will at least make someone think twice.

got a bit of time on your hands i see- he just wants an alarm, he didnt ask if its a "magic deterrent", just for a suggestion for an alarm.

as far as if that deal is legit IT IS- i bought one from them and can vouch for it 100%. if you need to see the receipt and box i can take pics...

Re: Alarm suggestons????

Just don't want people wasting money on false hopes. Lots of misconceptions about alarms.

The gray market sales are a crap shoot. Total gamble.

And not so much free time just a computer hooked to my tv in front of where I eat dinner.

Re: Alarm suggestons????

Lol. I lock my car. The only security I have is a starter kill built in to my remote start because I don't know if my ex wife has a key to my car. Haha!

Like I said, don't leave anything in your car and use odd or multiple different fasteners for stuff. Like a special security torx holding my subs in which may or may not be different sizes. Amps in a difficult location with a series of reconstruction to access the screws. So even in someone got in they have to find out how to take the screws out before the could take the screws out. So not free but about 5 bucks at a hardware store and a little imagination on the install.

Re: Alarm suggestons????

Lol, alright. So given the purpose, a DEI system would be your best shot. Many, many dealers eerywhere in case you ever need parts or service. If your concern is when you are near the car a 2-way or" paging" system may be what you are after. That wayif you possibly don't hear it your remote will alert you.
