Catch can how does that work?

So the catch can catches oil and prevents it from being burnt up. I got that part. What does it do with the oil it catches? Does it re-introduce the oil back into the crankcase or does its just hold it until you empty it or what?

This is CavScoutRyno's set up. I'm getting the black bumper of awesomeness and he said his CC has done wonders. So i figure $50 is a good price since i don't think I'm leaking anywhere.

Ok thats what i was wondering. Part of me wanted to think that there would be some sort of way to reintroduce the oil back into the engine.

Re: Catch can how does that work?

oil captured in a catch can is usually mixed in with blowby and whenever i emptied mine out it wasnt really all that much in it. i usually empty it when doing an oil change.

Re: Catch can how does that work?

there are two types of oil catch-cans .. the more simpler of the two just catches oil, you have to empty it every once in a while, this is the one that I have, the harder you drive your car the quicker it fills up. The other catch-can setup actually recirculates the oil back into the block, this one is a little bit more pricier due to the extra hardware involved.

Yea, trying to help...by being a dick. I'm sorry but it was a smart ass degrading comment. Its really frustrating to do search all over the place and not find an answer to a simple question. Then have some smarmy jerk talk down to you? Hell no.
But i can take a hint...this forum is for more experienced people that already know everything there is to know about cars. I'll go elsewhere.

It's not for the already experienced, you'll do yourself good to stay and learn what you need to from the "more experienced". You need to get a little bit thicker skin though because what he said was not at all offensive. He is also a mod here so starting a war with him isn't a wise choice. Relax, don't be so defensive and hang out with us, it's gonna be alright
